If you'd bothered with phreaking, you could have just made the call... IIRC a blue box is what you would have wanted...

i was. we'd call sex lines on 900(i think, they were free to call but required some kind of payment, this was when credit cards were still manually copied with a machine) numbers from the lobby of my elementary school with my buds while we were waiting to get picked up.

i remember daring some kid at summer camp to call 911 and he did it, then we all got in trouble

Ours are now bookshelves for people to leave/take... Seen DVD's in a few places...

The premium you'd pay for 1-900 calls were just tacked directly on to your phone bill. Good times.

I only ever remember my parents using pay phones at 10 o'clock at night at a random gas station to call their crack dealer. We are NOT the same.

I remember those, I could make a local call for a dime, then it went up to 25 cents

man fuck phones of that era.
Such an inefficient form of communication.
Tried to call my doctor today. Their nurse never picks up and today was no different. I leave a voicemail instead.
They call back 30 minutes after they closed, so I'm no longer monitoring my phone and doing other shit instead.
My voicemail isn't set up even though I set it up years ago, probably because I've been through multiple different phones and these are the only fucks I deal with who still use voice calls as their primary mode of communication.
Now I have to call them back tomorrow and go through the same song and dance of leaving a voicemail because I know they're not gonna pick up, and then spend whole day anchored to my phone waiting for them to call me back.
All of this to ask a simple question that could easily be asked through their text-based patient access portal, but of course, they don't monitor that either.
I cannot imagine how frustrating it was to do business before text-based communication like SMS and email. Fuck. That. Noise.

I know these are still around but I wish there was some less shady way to have phone sex that doesn't involve meeting Millennials on 4chan. I know the zoom zooms have their thing but whatever.

I remember when cell phones were getting popular I was worried about the fact people would know that if they called and I didn't answer that I ignored it. You used to be able to be like "sorry I wasn't home". Thank God it's not actually that bad.
>>
>>107428650
I had an ex who would ring the phone for very, very long to pressure you into answering. She was a fucking asshole.
