>>107435401You've never actually seen a PC CRT have you
>>107437194No OLED and LCDs have pretty much the same amount of motion blur, compared to CRT or Plasma.
>>107434180OLED is one of the biggest tech scams of all time. Gradients are HORRIBLE on OLED displays.
>>107435364>baited nobody>actually derailed the whole thread
>>107437318both oled and lcd are made up of Light Emitting Diodes, and yes they have the exact same amount of motion blur cause they are lowkey the same, you specifing oled in the original post instead of generalizing lcds just shows youre only interested in your crt wank instead of technology and you should shut up?
>>107434180Okay.. how does this work though? i'm viewing this on a IPS screen... how am i able to see artifacts specific to OLED then???
>>107437573You don't actually understand what causes sample&hold motion blur. It has nothing to do with characteristics of LEDs; in fact LED-backlit displays *are* capable of matching CRT-grade motion clarity, like in VR headsets or rare desktop monitors like the Viewsonic XG2431. This is because they employ backlight strobing, emulating CRT-like sub-ms frame persistence.
>>107437627>>107437573Meanwhile OLEDs cannot; they are not bright enough to remain usable when a frame is only lit up for a fraction of a millisecond. The lowest non-VR OLEDs have gone is like 3.5ms afaik which still has quite a lot of motion blur (picrel).
>>107437573>7kbFUCK YOU
>>107437627Btw this is in slow-motion what your eye is actually looking at when displaying motion on a display. It should be pretty obvious why modern displays have so much motion blur - moving objects cannot be drawn with stationary frames.CRTs, Plasmas and such get around this by flashing their frame for a fraction of a millisecond, regardless how fast your eye moves relative to the "stationary frame" it wont have time to blur. Kind of exactly the same thing as camera shutters.
>>107437641>According to LG, OLED response times are up to 1,000 times faster than LCD,[126] putting conservative estimates at under 10 μs (0.01 ms), which could theoretically accommodate refresh frequencies approaching 100 kHz (100,000 Hz).so which is it? just cheap ass driving circuitry that does sample and hold?
>>107437742Response times literally do not matter. CRTs famously can have long phosphor trails yet they're still the gold standard of motion clarity.https://blurbusters.com/faq/oled-motion-blur/Try to understand what these two videos and posts are trying to tell you >>107437627 >>107437697
>>107437742>>107437775
>>107437817wobbleh wobbleh pencil!!!!Is there a way to get strobing on AMD, Intel or on Linux? I use 60hz monitors most of the time, but I'd switch my main at my desk for the 120-165Hz ULMB capable display, once more just to see the clarity. I miss the wobbly pencil.
>>107437775i'm not even confused about that, i'm asking where the unfounded 3.5ms for oled comes from. you can clearly see that strobing an oled would be way more effective.
>>107437870Strobing is a hardware feature or an inherent property of the display, has nothing to do with your gpu or os. Software BFI exists but it's utter dogshit, this feature HAS to be implemented in display hardware.
>>107437886Ah cool. Yeah my 144hz display abd XB271HU both had ULMB support. It should then be available then? Nice. I just haven't had a chance to check it out since going AMD and half switching to linux, or trying it with battlemage, when that arrives.
>>107437883As already explained in >>107437641, brightness. This is the best known OLED that has BFI. It has 3.5~4.0ms of persistence as measured by rtings:https://www.rtings.com/tv/reviews/lg/cx-oledBacklight strobing (or BFI in this case) is literally equivalent to just frame-synced PWM dimming. An OLED display doing 60hz (16ms frame) at 1ms persistence would have it's brightness reduced by 16x!!!! And unlike inorganic LEDs, you just cannot drive OLEDs hard enough to make up the loss. Without having abysmal lifetime anyway.

i've bought an oled and i'm kinda disappointed, the motion clarity at 500hz or 250 with bfi isn't that much better than my 144hz tni expected to see much fewer mouse tracers while waving the mouse on the desktop and also background objects aren't that much clearer in vidya
>>107434180I've had this problem on every OLED I've had from my old S9 to my new Pixel, and no tech youtuber talks about it. But it's probably easier to massproduce OLED garbage than microLEDs and other superior technologies.
>>107438852oh I'm sorry you are correct, it's not an even playing field, can you tell me why that is

The third world didn't discard them at such a rate, but the first world buys them for several factors above the fair rate. The CRT market bounced back in the civilised, first world west, where markets excelled in the mid 00's and weathered the storm of the GFC.
>>107438940Again, you have proved that Brandolini's law is absolute. Cease breathing while choking on my tiny nub. Many women and men have compared it to the first thinkpad they saw.
>>107438914480p160hz is only 85khz which is low end monitor specs. Higher quality CRTs ran at 120khz and above.
>>107435716Is this real? Does it really lag behind like that? I understand breaking the ming and displaying the wrong color, but what the fuck is this?

Can anyone with a recent cell phone tell me if OLED displays still have black smearing at low brightness? I use an s6 edge and at low brightnesses the blacks smear. I thought it was something to do with the pixels having a lower response time at low voltages or something, I wonder if that has been fixed.
>>107439668Redmagic 9 pro here and yes
ive noticed this thought it was just my phone being shit
>>107437775There is no gold standard for motion clarity. CRTs have their set of problems with motion clarity. "Motion clarity" is just illusions playing on the limitations of your meatware. All display technologies are trade-offs and poisons. Just pick the poison you prefer the most.

Why would anyone bother with OLED when MiniLED is so obviously the superior tech. All you need is a few thousand dimming zones to get 99% OLED level blacks BUT you also get>way brighter screen>no burn in issues>actually cheaper

>>107435200This isn't sample & hold blur, this is happening due to pixel response time. OLED pixels respond nearly instantly when they're already on, but if they're transitioning from being off (completely black) to a dark grey or something like that, they're much slower.>>107435401This isn't true. Phosphor trails are noticeable but the motion still looks clear, sample & hold blur reduces motion resolution entirely. Like you can read small, moving text with phosphor trails on the screen but you cannot do so with sample & hold blur because the whole thing gets nuked, it's not just a trail behind the object you're looking at.
