For gaming you most likely won’t notice it especially the polling. But you can adjust the actuation to the point where if your finger even brushes against a key it will register as an input and it’s a kinda different experience. I don’t regret my Hall effect keyboard at all

none of that shit matters as much as switch choice. all the noise comes from the mechanism inside the switch, the bottom out and/or the return

i boughted a cheap backlit keyboard from amazon a couple years ago but recently the qwerty row doesn't type properly

i prefer wired, 100% layout, backlit again but not necessarily large print or super bright like all the "featured" results on amazon
i don't care about multicolor if that reduces price at all

mechanical or membrane switch doesn't matter as long as its cheap-ish

i just don't know if any of these chineseian brands are good
the last one was Mafiti and it came with a really shitty mouse that died in less than a week
doesn't look like they're listed on amazon at all any more

there's a nice function for rapid fire where you can barely release and press the key again and it actuates. on classical switches you have to feather it where it actuates, you can set it anywhere with HE and you can have faster key repeats this way

>>107482690

as in this function is different from setting the actuation point, which is a different thing altogether. in the gif actuation point is set up high in the HE one, the function detects when you slightly release the key then it registers any press, no matter the actuation point. took me a while to get it when I tested it, couldn't figure out what the difference is compared to mashing the key around the set actuation point

You just don't know what you are talking about

The average up stroke from a 4mm switch is 65ms

Rapid trigger completely, negates upstroke (and debounce), and allows people to have consecutive inputs in the order of 10 ms.

The only argument against this being an universal advantage is because alot of games have a 20 ms+ input buffer

I need keyboard recommendations. My current one is picrel, the problems are mainly:
>expensive as fuck ($500)
>trackball roller bearings got dirty and it's an ass to clean
I like the concept of having the trackball attached to the keyboard, but cleaning is ass and I need two (a blue switch for home-office and a brown switch for office). I really prefer to use blue switches, but I can't really use them in the office, so I would rather have two keyboards. But spending like EUR 1000 on two keyboards is absurd.
What are my options? KMS?

So, I really had to struggle to get the switches in to this plate and now some of them are having slight return issues. I've used them in another board already before transplanting them to this one so I know they were just fine before I installed them here. The keycaps aren't rubbing against the case or anything and it's happening on a couple switches that don't even use stabilizers. Did I squeeze the bottom housings of these switches to the point that they're partially broken? I didn't even know that was a thing that could happen.
>>
>>107501407
>and now some of them are having slight return issues

>>107501415
(I didn't read the whole post lol)
>>
>>107501407
Use a plate fork next time. Maybe the plate is not machined properly, that can make it too tight on the switch housing. Are those Cherry switches by any chance?
>>
>>107501523
I did use a plate fork. I'm using hmx switches.
>>
>>107501407

>>
>>107501563
No lol, they're hmx, who the fuck hand lubes hmx switches? They're perfect without being fucked with.
>>
>>107501577
I can't think of a lot of ways to fuck up putting a non-stabilized key switch into the plate such that it has return issues.
>>
>>107501587
The plate was insanely tight. I had to struggle to get them in despite going out of my way to apply pressure as evenly as possible. Warping the bottom housing with the plate is the only thing I can think of that went wrong.
>>
>>107501532
Ah yes HMX and their housing issues are common.
>>
>>107501632
And this mainly. Tolerances aren't uniform for plate switch dimensions, some are always too small. It happens all the time.

it "works" in the sense i can get ascii and scancodes out of it. i found https://github.com/jimjag/JJ65c02 which is probably the only intelligible source ive been able to find for using a pico to read PS/2. i still have a ton of changes i need to make because this specific board switches between an abcdef layout a qwerty layout, and i need to support modifier keys which ill eventually be adding to the case and feeding directly into the pico.

theres a lot of stupid shit in the way because its breadboarding and debugging at the same time. the pico on the left is acting as a uart console so i can capture output as the pico on the right boots, otherwise id need to sleep and then connect to it as its sleeping and thats a pain in the ass. the only important part is the pico on the right and the voltage divider on the data line (the resistors around the green wire in the top left that feed into the purple wire going into the pico on the right). i need the voltage divider because the keyboards data output is 5v and i need it at 3.3 for the pico to not kill itself.

the board im eventually putting in the case is comparatively much nicer. eventually, the pico is going to register as a usb hid input device and translate the bizarre proprietary stuff this keyboard does. im still torn between whether or not i want to use a pico 2 or a pico 2 w and make it bluetooth-capable or not, but i dont particularly feel like putting a battery inside this thing just yet.
>>

seems like Wooting is trying to make some universal analog SDK for analog keyboards. they trying to fix the issue with games, where analog keyboards aren't really supported, apart from the joystick trick that keychron pulled. but that's a bit of a hack anyway.
so they're supporting other analog keyboards not just their own, they're pushing this thing into games. seems interesting, gonna play with it. cyberpunk and ksp already got support in their plugin.

>ps/2 only has clock and data lines?
along with gnd and vcc, yes. im still not entirely fluent in how ps/2 works, but having a working, debuggable board iss the biggest step in understanding it. i dont have a logic analyzer so im going to have to rely on uart and print statement debugging to figure out how this thing works.

>also what are you trying to achieve?
eventually this is going to interface with a raspberry pi thats inside of a circuitbent speak and spell to control both it and a tui on a microdisplay inside of a fursuit head. i want to make a fursuit talk through a speak and spell, and the theme is techy toys. im salvaging bizarre hardware from old toys or weird hardware that looks like a toy to make it work.

>what's that keyboard?
this is a Greystone Digital BigKeys. honestly there isnt much information about it online aside from whats published on ergocanada.com or the lgr oddware video about it. there are a ton of different revisions and they feature proprietary firmware for preventing repeated keypresses or using unconventional modifier keys that i dont think has any documentation.

The group switched rooms because too many boards were being stolen; I tried to follow them but lost sight of them, I followed a stranger into an empty room, there was no one in there. >>107511831
>INDUCTION SWITCHES
meh, could work. they supposedly work. the issue with inductive is they depend on application specific chips which scan them as a matrix, and they're 1kHz scan rates at most. at least for now.
they're interesting as there's no magnet in the switch, just a rod of metal, and there's no electronics under the switch, just a pcb coil, made from the pcb copper trace. which tickles my autism, as there's only some aluminium in the switch and some copper on the pcb and that's it. nothing much to go wrong with that.
but still...depends on those matrix scanning specialized chips so yeah. if we're not considering the price of those chips, which should be like 2-3 pieces per keyboard, then inductive should end up the cheapest option. but if one of those chips breaks, it takes out 1/2 or 1/3 of whole keys.
>>
>>107509627
this is the future old man. they're not going away. they're more cost effective, less headaches with broken switches and shit. and they offer superior configurations for input. your deprecated technology has nothing going for it. not even the tactile/clicky shit, there's already tactile magnetic switches. it's over
