Why do Americans even bother with dial-up/dsl still? In Europe we discontinued it in the 2000s and modern telemetry in Windows takes up megabytes of bandwidth rendering it useless. It seems like it would be cheaper just to rip out and sell all the copper lines for scrap and give out satellite subscriptions with the proceeds. The fact that they did a video about it a few days ago felt like I had time travelled 20 years.
All of the autism none of the map painting.
>>107473744Haha yes, I also watch LTT!!!!
>>107473786Why don't you have good bread like we do in germanyNo seriously, i wanna know ?
>>107473786NTA, but he does have a point.Your power and telecoms grid are literally third world. In fact, the third world tends to have better comms 'cause they didn't have copper to begin with. They didn't have someone trying to squeeze every last dollar outta suttin' that paid them back before the 1980's, they started with fibre. The previous point about copper is valid, there's not any excuse for it being there from a technological standpoint. Fibre serves them and you better, weighing it in for scrap should be value. Seems it's worth more to them using it to rape you lot over a barrel. You have entire areas where it's only possible to gain one provider? We don't get none o that shit.
>The fact that they did a video about it a few days agoYou've never had an original thought, have you?
>>107473744I get the light indicator for DATA but what is OH? does it blink every time the device moans?
>>107473744I'm sure America still has some retarded legacy systems that depend upon it in some way.
the infrastrctre is really bad in parts of America. Not just telecom but everything
>>107473744>Why do Americans even bother with dial-up/dsl still? In Europe we discontinued it in the 2000sDid "we"?
>>107473744What's wrong with DSL?VDSL is capable of 100mbps tho in the real world that might not be possible but 50mbps is most definitely possible. It's not a gig but still decent speed for majority users.
>>107474917It's just outdated tech. The cables are rotting away, most of the world is moving away from it, it is much more sensitive to interference, the DSLAM manufacturers already stopped manufacturing line cards and software support is also ending.>It's not a gig but still decent speed for majority users. If hardware prices keep rising, most people will have to stream literally everything from the "cloud", there will be an increase in bandwidth and a demand for low latency connections.
>>107473744>dial-up/dslWhy would you lump those together? You can get 80Mbit down, 20Mbit up with VDSL assuming a short and decent quality phone line. For most households that's honestly good enough. In the UK, 80% of households can get FTTP and 90% can get gigabit through either FTTP or HFC. But many people are still on VDSL because their internet speeds aren't causing them any issues, and I can't blame them.
>>107475390I get 250Mbit/s down and 43Mbit/s up using VDSL2it's still shit tier technology
>>107475583It would be a shit choice for a new rollout, but nobody is doing that. New construction gets fibre basically everywhere now.For existing lines? I bet 90% of people wouldn't be able to tell any difference between 250/43 VDSL and 2000/2000 XGS-PON.It should definitely be replaced with fibre eventually, and in most places it is. But if a home can get good VDSL2 it makes sense for it to be low on the upgrade priority list.
>>107474793Off hook, means the line is in use
>>107473744I mean Starlink may be different but I've never looked into it so I'm not sure. Given the choice between traditional satellite Internet and DSL I'm taking DSL any day
>>107474859I live in fucking Bosnia and i have optic. There is no way the rest of the actual europe still runs on anything worse.
>>107476235You probably have telephone poles. In most parts of Western Europe people are autistic about burying all the cables under the surface which makes fiber like 100 times more expensive to install.
>>107476235didn't bosnia also get the fuck bombed out of it, probably would have been a good time to install fibre while you're making sure there's like, buildings and power lines and water pipes and stuff again
>>107473887We do you retard. You just have to buy it from the bakery part of the grocery store and not the micro plastics and seed oils section.
>>107476254fiber doesn't typically go on poles. it's almost always buried everywhere>>107476264the like two or three times i went to america there was no good food anywhere. all sysco slop
>>107476263Nobody installed fiber to the home in the 1990s lol
>>107473951> Your power and telecoms grid are literally third world.I've lived in Italy, Austria and Czechia. What was considered "fast" or "reliable" internet there was embarrassing. Out of the three of them it was the best in Italy, but even then you could barely maintain a decent video call without it dropping out, especially during the summer when all the comms systems were taxed from running so hot.The only thing I will grant Europe over the US in terms of Internet services is you guys do have much better deals on cellphone service (though that is rapidly changing in the US with providers like Mint/Metro/Vision/etc. where you can get unlimited data plans for $15-30 per month).
>>107473744Do they really? I heard from a friend there that Biden's infrastructure bill helped expand fiber. I thought they were first world like the rest of us in that regard, just a few years late to it.Are there Americans that still don't have fiber?
They took down the phone lines years ago here. So there just mobile phones now. If you dont have fiber you just have mobile internet. I have to use my phone to give internet to my laptop. In 2025. They call it progress. T. Swede
>>107476311They don't have VoIP home phone service there?
>>107476274> the like two or three times i went to america there was no good food anywhere. all sysco slop. You sound like an American tourist who only goes to tourist trap towns and then complains when it's full of Chinese junk and the restaurants are shit and overpriced. America is an absolutely massive agricultural center, and we have some of the best dairy, eggs, bread, meat etc. that money can buy if you know where to look. You just have to go to a decent grocery store that gets stuff from more local farms and bakeries instead of just Walmart mass produced goy-slop.
>>107474859What the hell is Italy using?
>>107476324sure thing pal
>>107476313If you dont have fiber then you have nothing but your mobile phone. I guess most people living in apartments have fiber but if you have your own house then fiber is expensive to connect. They put fiber in most areas but you have to pay for them to dig between your house and the main cable which can be very expensive.
>>107476337EoP (Ethernet over Pasta) with PoE for resiliency (Penne over Ethernet jacketing)
>>107476353Do you guys not have FTTN? Here you can have a fiber network for the area but a coax drop and only have home phone over coax if you really wanted.
>>107476264>>107476324Sorry to tell you but even the best bread in America would be considered mediocre in Germany, like it's not even close. If you need to go to the best selected bakery in America then you have to compare it to the best bakery in Germany too.
Because copper is kingI can still use my beautiful landline whenever I please thanks to copper, I cant trust these fish faced fucks to not get their disgusting hands all over freshly stripped fiber before fusing it and dropping it in the dirt.
>>107476396why does america like to do things badly on purpose to "prove" that obsolete technologies should stay in use, but charge modern tech prices?
>>107476376No. There was a lot of anger from people who lived in areas with bad cell coverage when they took away the land lines and old peoples alarms stopped working when coverage was bad. Even old peoples alarms are dependent on fiber or mobile and if there was an alternative like the one you describe then people would use that.
>>107476377Not that anon, but Germany has fucking trash bread. You have no idea what good white bread tastes like
>>107476411Its not on purpose, the people paid to do things aren't paid enough to care even though with all the handouts they absolutely should.Plus just because new tech comes along it doesn't make the old tech obsolete or useless especially when it has its own benefits. Most place I service tend to have fiber as primary and copper as secondary since its reliable
>>107476444>Germany has fucking trash breadOh look we got a retarded contrarian here
>>107476444>Good>White breadNo such thing>t. USAsian
