Whats going on?
>anon discovers streaming a massive 4K video on youtube requires downloading and caching it to a video buffer
>he stores his browser cache on disk
>>107477202Wait what!? This nigga doesn't even know about swapping/paging? Holy hell...
This is why I exclusively use yt-dlp that pre-downloads video to my HDD in the format I prefer, I never open any youtube links in my browser anymore.
>>107477111wow that was difficult
Noooooooooooo dont use the hardware I bought!NOOOOOOOOOO
>>107479767lmao
>>107479767browsers rape ur ssd writes
>>107479815NOOOOOOOOOO NOT THE SSD I PURPOSELY BOUGHT FOR WRITE AND READ NOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOO HELP ME
>>107477111Buffering I guess.
>>107479845if you want caching use RAM instead and not something with like 1000 cycles per chip
>>107478899>That's why i exclusively cum with my ass now, i never use my dick anymore
>>107479951>gay analogyWouldn't using browser count as using your ass?
>>107479845Based anon. I have the same reaction when turbo autists get triggered by ram usage.
>>107477111Disable your adblock
>>107477241>he needs swapping when browsing webwindows moment
>>107477111newpipe doesn't have this problem
>>107481757>windows momentAnd 2027 moment when everyone is on 4GB ram again when it's the only amount still affordable (at mere $300!) while the internet stays bloated
Use psd (profile-sync-daemon) by graysky, have it started automatically by systemd before Firefox starts, and everything stays in RAM. Not a single write to SSD unless you want to.
>>107484484i dont have the ram capacity for that
>>107478899It takes so long to open.
Youtube website is malware.
>>107477111Are you using firefox?
>what do you MEAN accessing online content writes data (cache) to diskWhy does /g/ allow such extreme levels of tech illiteracy? It's always at its worst with these youtube-related threads, too.
>>107477190anon 56Mbps is barely viewable hd
>>107485354The amount of writing to disk doesn't reflect the amount that's being cached in memory
>>107479767>>107479845>buy 128gb ram>browser and OS write temp files to disk anyway
>>107484484Cool I got like 128 gigs, could it burn the ram or high temps on the board?
I've had --disk-cache-dir=/tmp/cache for my browser for years and thought I was saving my disk by using ram instead. Turns out my /tmp was mounted on my root drive the whole time and I've been destroying my ssds for years.sudo systemctl enable tmp.mountProblem solved. Thanks to whoever started this thread
modern consumer level SSDs can withstand about 1 write a daymeaning, modern SSDs can write their entire contents worth every day and be fine
>>107484484Psd does not sync your cache, you need asd for that. Or you can just disable disk cache in about:nigger
>>107485932you dont have to disable it, you can use set it to the same directory
>>107485883i thought only high end consumer ssds had over 1 dwpd
>>107477190>streaming video from the internet means it has to be cached to disk rather than ramhow fucking retarded are you? no, that's not how it works>>107485354youtube's 1080p average bitrate is 1-2 mbps with vp9/av1, what did you mean by this
>>107486161>that's not how that worksDoes he know?
>>107486242>watch 30 mbps 4k60 video on jewtube>disk usage: <100 kb/syes, i know.
>>107483017what do you need more than 2GB for?
>>107481757By default Linux uses swap way more than windows uses the page file.
stop using web browsers for youtube>>107485202not a problem with my youtube client which doesn't require slow yt-dlp
>>107486991I don't even have a swap file.
>>107487641Because you use a swap partition like you're supposed to?Oh. Wait. Frogposter. Guess not.
>>107477111Let me guess, Firefox?
>>107479751Damn, got em
