it cant download apps and stupid shit it can only call. I'm thinking of using an old iPhone.

Sure you can use them as organizers and maybe to do calls if it's not too old (for example 2G). In any case, no interwebs for you with that thing.
Your biggest issue is the most likely bloated battery that needs to be replaced

"Dumb phones" are a zoomer fruitnigger aero meme. You can make literally any phone dumb by turning off mobile data. Calls and SMS only through voice bands.
