It took them an entire one and a half generation with hearing damage to realize it was a bad idea.

Another reason is that when you got a decent setup, but you NEED to set it to high volumes in order for the drivers to work properly. Its kinda shit to get into a completely sound deadened Audi or BWM, you torn on the fantastic Bang & Olufsen sound system, and you need to set it above the max fan noise to even get the drivers to operate, otherwise the sound picture gets muddled into horrid mids.
Unironically the worst part of using a decent sound system, and raising the needed DB level to 65 or even 70 would render it completely useless.
