"webp" isn't as simple as it seems. It doesn't just have a slight to moderate compression gain over JPG (depending on source), it's also intended to replace GIF and PNG. Which is cool and all but it adds like a gorrillion attack vectors more numerous than a simple PDF in the recent hack.

Best case scenario: 4chan is playing it safe, waiting a few more years or a decade longer to let the format mature like H264/JPG

Worse case scenario: 4chan dev team is just as incompetent as the simian sexual offender.

There's one with dots over it now as well as a slide bar at the same time, I don't have an image on had because I don't (usually) shit post but its very much there to deter spammers.

The library 4chan uses already has webp support literally all they have to do is add it to the accepted formats.
