Every image editor and smartphone and DSLR/MILC and any other smart device with image save option will save JPG as default. As a consequence, every content creator uploads JPGs.What people do on top of that is adding an auto converter into their CMS (Wordpress alone has dozens of these). Which means sites will link to a url ending with .jpg but the site serves image/webp instead, recompressed, and in shit quality. The problem with this is that it's lossy recompression. I've had several clients bringing it up frequently that the images look dull and blurred when I turn on webp on our sites. I can use webp lossless but then the files are way larger than the JPG originals.Webp is a waste of fucking time, it's a google enforced crap "standard" (not even a standard, it's just a webm keyframe) that nobody wanted and nobody needed.Only way Webp would get any traction whatsoever would be if Google forced the next android version to have the camera app save in webp by default or some such shit, and not making it possible to turn the option off.
