It is supposed to be decentralized so that everyone seeds videos and such. In practice?I want to find videos from spacepub.space which got taken down recently and I go to a different website that was syncing with spacepub. I open a video ...https://peertube.dk/w/wpKXfhqqr7FajEAf4B2Vc2... nobody is seeding the video. What the fuck, what is even the point of this then? Is it just lost forever??I cannot even get the torrent file ...https://peertube.dk/download/torrents/66feb645-da5b-440f-8307-04e51ed1e493-720-hls.torrentWho the fuck designed this? I should be able to at least get the torrent even if the original site is down.
>>107491560>Who the fuck designed this? I should be able to at least get the torrent even if the original site is down.someone has to host the content nigger>nobody is seeding the videobecause its not a popular site, there are a lot of videos, and random low value videos take up a lot of space for someone to keep in their storage to seed
>>107491686Why doesn't it store the torrents?
they blacklisted luke smith on it. you can't find him through the search engine.
>>107491697because even .torrent files take space which wouldnt be trivial and would be mostly worthless if nobody is actually seeding the files within the torrent
>>107491830it takes like 5kb of space ... less than the thumbnail ...

>>107492037anon…a torrent is not the file, it just points you to where you can download the filesomeone still has to host the file for you to torrent
>>107492225Yes I know but since the original site is gone, and the mirrors cannot even get the torrent file, maybe someone IS seeding it, we just don't know because we don't have access to the torrent. Also with a torrent I can upload it on my server and leave it running for months if maybe someone will eventually seed it. It gives so much more flexibility.
>>107491560I think that specific instance is broken for some reason. it's not peertube.

>>107492037>it takes like 5kb of space.torrent file does not take 5kb of space, it takes much more, create a torrent of a 1080p 60fps video of half an hour and then see>>107492252videos get reencoded all the time unfortunately which means the hash of the video changes, meaning the important thing of the video is the name, which you can search on DHT like with btdig.com
>>107492312>videos get reencoded all the time unfortunately which means the hash of the video changes, meaning the important thing of the video is the nameThat shouldn't happen on peertube though.
>>107492703the point is you want to get the video content, so if a hash changes multiple times because of reencoding you will have that video in multiple qualities across different torrents, meaning its more valuable to search the name/url than the hash, since those dont change
>>107492750Sure but I think that original quality torrent should always be available.
