thinking of switching from opensuse, whats a good alternative? i just want something stable, with a lot of packages and that has access to relatively recent nvidia drivers. debian pill me
arch
Another vote for arch
>>107493155FedoraYou lose snapper working but just use timeshift and you will have all the same feature of tumblweed but BETTERWant a more stable system use a atomic version that has easier rollback but will be more limited in some regards.Enjoy no longer having to sign MOK after every update and having random packages break while somehow having newer packages than you would have on tumbleweed.
>>107493215does fedora do the retarded thing opensuse does where they'll just randomy rename development libraries compared to other distros?
>>107493280No, many of those retarded fucking tactics is a result of incompetence and a shrinking team due to chasing people off. They offer nothing of value now the tumbleweed I started with is not the tumbleweed I left.
>>107493185>>107493200okay then archpill me, im not afraid of installing from the commandline>>107493306hows the nvidia driver experience then? the one positive part of opensuse is that they do stay on top of recent releases,
>>107493316They really don't and have been severely behind other rolling releases because they only had one guy work on it. You will get more up to date drivers on fedora and zero conflicts using the open driver which you will need if you have a 5000 series card. The docs are concise and once you sign the MOK signature you are good to go.
>>107493155On Linux Mint for almost 10 years, never looked back, never a minute of frustration.Listen to these imbeciles>>107493185>>107493200and you're immediately welcomed to the club of>Works on my machine>Skill issue>Just re-install, bro
>>107493215>You lose snapperSnapper works just fine on Fedora. It's just not preconfigured.
>>107493872I keep seeing warnings against it and people say use redshift instead, I'll look into it more>>107493645Mint is system dependent and if you have more mature hardware like 2-3 years old you should be fine with it compared to more bleeding edge hardware mainly the GPU
>>107494016>people say use redshift insteadIsn't redshift a night light for Wayland?
>>107494056Timeshift sorry
>>107493155>debian pill meif u are coming from a rolling realese it will be shocking to adjust to no updates.but some advantages: apt is fast, lts, huge package library, OG distro very supported and it just werks.ngreedia drives are experimental, so yeh go with FEDora for that one i guess.
>>107494126>FEDoraYou sound like a bitter goblin that can't get access to modern hardware
>>107493155>something stableYou're in for a treat>lot of packagesYou're in for a treat>relatively recent nvidia driversOops, the Nvidia drivers on Debian are horribly outdated even on Debian Sid, however, I was able to install the Nvidia drivers from their website using their .run file, it seems to work fine for me, the only downside is that you have to reinstall your Nvidia drivers every time there's a kernel update, which fortunately for Debian is very rare.t. long time Debian user.
>>107494138just a nick, nothing personal fed bro. FEDora just works too, we're cool
Sex with reimu
alright bros i ended up going with fedora but the installer errored out at the very end. despite that it still boots up fine into a working fedora so...
>>107495648cool, it seems people are jumping ship on tumble, isnt that just a better arch? why exactly did you leave, and was your experience with it good?
>>107495793i got sick of having to look up the opensuse specific versions of every development library every time i wanted to build a cool github thing. and while opensuse does have stuff like the open build system its just not as comprehensive as id like
>>107493316>okay then archpill mefrom my experience, it satisfies these requirements:>stable>a lot of packages>has access to relatively recent nvidia driversAnd yes, arch instability is a meme.
>>107494063Timeshift on btrfs only works with the Ubuntu naming thingy
