Is there any viable alternative to this? Without any licensing fees?
>>107494260what specifically do you not like that you'd like an improvement on, any alternative suggestion has to be based on that
>>107494260does LGPL count?
>>107494260It's "open source" but you need to pay to get your game ported to some platforms.
>>107494260Write your own, faggot
Youll be able to vibe MAKE an entire videogame next year
>>107494260Redot anyone? No?
>>107494260You're never going to make enough money to pay any licensing fees
>>107494260just make ur own, unironically. you shouldn't need any crazy features until later on so just make it extensible for when the time comes
>>107494337bad faith post
>>107494333they've been already doing that for every ac game post syndicate kkkk
>>107494376You're never going to notice the licensing fees if you make enough money.
godot is good enough it just needs more polish and not look like shit oob. Also docs are garbage and wrong sometimes.
>>107494337Nta, but that's not the problem, the issue is that if epic does not like your game they can legally prevent you from using their engine.
The thing is, IMHO it really is one of the best ones once you get the hang of it. At least its the most fun one to use. I think it depends on the level you want to drop down to. What I found was if I go to a level below Godot even something like Love2D which is pretty much has all the same 2D features, but even at that level you lose the GUI tooling. You have to build your levels in ASCII or download a third party level editor and use whatever format or JSON file they demand of you and you end up reinventing the wheel for anything lower. If you're doing a game jam it doesn't really matter. But if you're doing something thats longer term having an editor that just loads everything back up where you can see all the objects and maps and scripts you have attached to things visually is actually super underrated by hobby game devs. But even for me I have some really OLD ass shit. I can load it up and jump back into wherever I left off at the time. You don't actually have to update or download a new binary every release... but you can. So ya I dunno Godot is pretty good.
>>107494260if you're using other people's software you gotta abide by their licenses. Don't wanna deal with licenses, gotta make your own. But I do have to ask, is your only reluctance to use Godot based on that one retarded social media manager of theirs? Because then I can probably assume you're never gonna make anything anyways because you're retarded.
>>107494535The only reasonable thing you can't do is hate speech
>>107494535>Be not murican and still use father/child and white/black list>some retarded Karen over at epic bans you and your game and sues you for using itYou don't have American corporations enough and the politicians allowing them these behaviors.
>>107494260yeah just sdl and putpixel like a real man tranny
>>107494535they also have a bunch of blue haired fat chicks at epic with their pronouns displayed everywhere. they cant really be trusted, as much as i like the engine.
>>107494707The white/blacklist thing is for their internal code rules, as in if they're pushing code to the engine, not for 3rd party devs.
>>107494707>be unix enjoyer>clone and kill children infinitely for fun>some retarded Karen over at epic bans you and your game and sues you for using it
>>107494656The important thing is that there is a clause in the license that can make epic stop you using their engine. The specific reasons are not important.
Defold
>>107494260Paying for software in this year is just stupid. Making a game engine for your stupid game nobody will play is trivial and can be done in a day. I am glad there are fees as they always atract the retards like you. It serves as a containment zone.
Is Unity better then godot?
>>107494260use a framework, there are many options out there
>>107494336Redpill me on ReX?
>>107494315>open source is when you bypass third party publishing restrictions and gain access to proprietary developer kits for free
>>107494535If you make no money with your games you can put them on TPB and RuTracker and Reppic won't be able to do shit
>>107494656>The only reasonable thing you can't do is hate speechWho gets to define the hate speech?
>>107494535I guess I'm not going to be using UE then. I'll bet Unity has something similar.
>>107494315Those platforms require that not Godot...
>>107494535>gamblingSo they don't actually care LMAO.
