do you guys feel it's a good time to buy a 5090? i can get one for ~3k usd which seems to be their price in the us right now, so it seems like a reasonable price for my country. with all the memory price hikes incoming, i feel like the next generation of gpus will be a worse deal and this purchase might last me for a long time. i got into running local models lately, i have a 4080 but the 16gb are limiting me

Sup anons im thinking about building or buying my first desktop pc. Building one costs a little over 1000$ with the parts i choose and buying a prebuild is 900$ but with some older parts but double the ram. Here is the partslist for the prebuild.
Cpu:ryzen 5800/5800x
Cpu fan:beQuiet pure rock pro3
MB:Msi b550m pro-vdh wifi
Ram:16gb 3200 ddr4 corsair
Gpu:gigabyte rx9060xt 16gb
Ps:thermaltake gt750w
Case:deepcool ch260
Im thinking about building something smaller therefore i might get a non X 5800.maybe someone can chyme in with some stats if the x version get to hot for a compact case.

The prebuild pc for 900$ has a ryzen 7 5700x 32gb of ram and a rtx3060. The other parts arent named so no further info on them. Let me know what you think

Building my first PC. I picked up a Ryzen 7 9800x3d, and I got a deal on two sticks of 6400 cl32 ram. Is that going to be fine? In other words, would I notice any real difference if I switched to cl30?

Real difference? A few percent. Worth the 300% inflated price? Depends if you're a richfag

Interesting. So I would see a small difference by switching to a lower latency? Don’t think I can justify the 100 bucks it would cost though.

I am pretty new to this, so how much manual configuration will I need to do with tuning the hardware once I have the computer up and running? This isn’t a question just for you but for everyone I guess.

crap I posted this in the soon to be dead thread

pcbg/ bros with liquid cooling knowledge, plz halp me understand, one of the options for mounting radiator is pic related, i understand that this is not the recommended top mount, just trying to learn (have not assembled anything yet), proposed is Lian Li A3 mesh sided case and Arctic LF Pro III.

inb4 use some other cooler, could be any cooler, this is about airflow

>in pic related is the board itself getting enough airflow to keep e.g. RAM cool?
>what about the back of the GPU, my 5070 has a cutout there and it gets toasty.
>what-if for pic related there were not any bottom fans, leaving the GPU to manage it's own cooling?
>what-if for pic related i mounted the radiator in a pull config, to bring air in from the radiator and wash over the board, i know it would be warmed air but at lease it's airflow and positive pressure into the area?

sorry for so many questions but have not built a system in many years and feel like a /noob/

I expect like +5-10% fps performance when raytracing is enabled in games that support it. Nothing major, but it'll certainly help bridge the gap between the 9070xt and the 5070 Ti on windows (for specific titles).

The only thing AMD could do that would genuinely excite me is pushing out FSR5.

850w is sufficient, but 1000 watts would be closer to the peak of the efficiency curve of most gold/platinum rated power supplies. You also wanna look fan/sound profiles for PSU's, because some audibly ramp up once you pass a certain wattage, and they have steps. Generally having 50-40% overhead will yield a quiet PSU, both in terms of fan speed and coil whine.

>>107497398

lol. Prices won't go down barring a full blown recession or a new manufacturer (China) entering the market. The markets will adapt by making this the new normal pricing for consumer hardware. Think about it, when the AI bubble pops, there's be tons of server farms that could easily be converted for cloud computing. The average joe will own nothing except a screen they can activate with a subscription. Local compute will be a luxury.

E33 runs like shit, no way to get stable 100FPS without doing potato settings on 7900XT @native 1440p.
Stable 80FPS is doable in that game.
What CPU do you even have?
Elden Ring has 60FPS cap by default but if you unlock it you will be more likely CPU limited than anything else.
BG3 is also CPU limited in later parts of the game.

I literally can't tell the difference between 60 fps and 120 fps... what the fuck is the difference?
>>
>>107497888
you might be a bit slow or just not paying attention
>>
>>107497888
you may be a hylic
nothing to be ashamed of, of course. Just letting you know.
>>
So apparently a 9070 can be flashed with a 9070XT bios to get a whooping 10% performance gain at the cost of merely 60% extra power draw.
But is it possible to do the opposite and flash non-XT bios on XT card to go lower than default -30% power limit?
>>
>>107497912
prob. either way you gonna need a bios flasher tool and if you fuck it up you can just go back. there are also people modding bios files so you might not even need to flash a non xt bios on a xt card.
>>
>>107497888
it really depends on the game you're playing
in triple a slop I don't see ANY difference in 60 to 120 fps because the games are made to be "pretty" and have so much shit going on on the screen at the same time that is really hard to focus on stuff and really notice the refresh difference
now playing dota 2 I can tell the difference between playing at 120, 180 or 240 because I'm so focused on the tiny details I can see the delay in miliseconds
>>
>>107496963
Buying RAM at this stage isn't even FOMO its panic, unless you somehow snag a very good deal for an old price. Just have to accept that you fucked up this gen and sit tight for the next 2-3-4 years. NVMes depend on the state of your market, if you could get 2tb of premium NVMe for 150$~ you did good.
>>
>>107497912
I was uniroincally considering doing that but I bought a card that doesn't have a bios switch so I'll never test it, it's probably for the best anyway

Should i buy an RTX 5080? The 16gb of ram sounds extremely retarded.
>>
>>107497833
Then you are set on the CPU front.
9070 are available at ~$520 but it depends where you live.
5070Ti is worth it if you need nV features.
7900XT is getting old at this point, if AMD won't announce FSR4 for RDNA3 tomorrow then it will be even worse deal.
>>
>>107497912
...or just use MSI Afterburner and lower your settings
>>
>>107497939
5070 ti is better price vs performance.
>>
>>107497957
>to go lower than default -30% power limit
>>
>>107497935
>sit tight for the next 2-3-4 years
that was what I would want to do. When my current PC runs its course I build a new one. But idk when that could be since I've never had one this long. If it stops working in 1.5 or 2 years and I have no choice but to build, and prices are even higher I would absolutely be fucked. Here at least I can get fucked on my own terms and with good intentions (and hopefully by less girth).
>>
>>107497912
There is simple solution, underclocking + UV.
30% lower power draw usually means around 10% lower performance, after that you hit diminishing returns.
On top of that start using framerate limits, ez.
>>

Yes but the price will plateau, its not there yet even if it might look like it. Current spike is mostly emotional speculation and panic purchases it is unpredictable and can fluctuate a lot, once the actual shortage kicks in they will soar further.

The markets are not based on logic. One article saying things like
>consumer DDR6 delayed into late 2028
and DDR5 will stay at 30$+ per GB for the next 3+ years even after (if) the shortage (haven't happened yet and will happen in mid-late 2026) is resolved. I wouldn't be positive about the station at least not until the legislators get involved. It is very clear that NAND/DRAM cartel is screwing the markets intentionally and using AI boom as a cover. If no legislator steps in during the 2026?
>Rip in piss will be missed, here lies Free Market and his brother Consumer Market they never scored.
Regardless of that shit we won't see summer RAM prices for the next decade at absolute minimum, unless Tiangong Jade RAM palace unlock their Imperial Vault of Heaven and floods the market with green goodness... however shit it might be.

/g/entlemen, I'm in the US, and my budget is open depending on the following two questions:

The first one is, with my current build:

i5 10400
16GB DDR4
Asus PRIME Z490P
Radeon RX 580 Series
Thermaltake SP-600AH PSU

What would be the best upgrade if I just wanted to play modern stuff on 1080p at 60fps?

If achieving this required a whole new build altogether, then what would be the best AMD 1080p build?

Thanks.

I'm currently on a 3700x.

I bought a 9700x.

I have in my possession 4x16 ddr4 (all same speed and latency), I already had 2x16 and bought another 2 sticks for 64gb. This was only a little more than about ~$100 extra.

2x32 ddr 6000mhz cl30. This cost me $430, and was half off what it was selling at the time.

I'm contemplating sending the 9700x back and getting a 5900xt and staying on am4 until am6.

I was thinking I could upgrade the am5 I'm building with zen7 but I don't know if zen7 will be on am5. And what I'm seeing about ddr6 it looks like it'll be a necessary upgrade. Unlike ddr5 which is for the most part not better than ddr4, and in some cases worse.

I don't like paying $430 for ram.
>>
>>107497939
No. It has same vram as 5070 ti and only marginally better performance. It's not worth $250 more if you can even get it at 1000, let alone like 300-500 more that it typically sells at.

It most likely will be. But if you're fine staying on AM4, just sell the RAM when it looks like it's about to hit its highest price and become rich.

If you can afford it then go ahead. Should be good for a long time.

otherwise get a 5070 ti, unless all you care about is gaming, then get the 9070 non xt which is almost as good as the XT for cheaper and has much less power consumption, can be overclocked to about XT performance.
>>
>>107498399
*and the 9070 XT is as good or better than 5070 ti for gaming

5060 ti good enough for most anything I'd play in the next 5+ years? most stuff would be more CPU bottlenecked than GPU yeah?

well it is what it is if you have to build now. If you got good deals you only over payed like 250$ for RAM and cut up to 300$~ on the GPU so its not that bad. I don't see you regretting your purchase for the next 3 years and by that point its already got you its worth.

How do I undervolt 7800x3d? Set a negative curve in PBO to like -20, set thermal limit to 85 and its gtg?

How to test for stability afterwards, Cinebench? Is the undervolting worth it or am I just asking for trouble?

1050ti is okay for a lot of stuff even nowadays but another decade is really pushing it. Get a 5060 anon, its less than 300 bucks.
>>
>>107501308
Undervolting is always worth it, the voltage they give cpus from the factories is usually too high. Too high voltage leads to less thermal headroom for boosting. Drop the voltage and suddenly the cpu performs better and cooler. Start with -10 check for stability initially with cinebench in case your chip is a dud then -15 test, -20 test etc until cinebench doesn't run then back it off 5 or 10 and stress test it. Stress test it with prime95 and occt core cycling to lock it in. If it errors in stress back it off another 5 and go agane.

Down? lol. The true shortage is expected to hit q2-q3 2026 and from that point it should last through the entirety of 2027, getting mostly resolved by q3-q4 of 2028 unless they are being genuine malicious and not just greedy, by the way this does not mean that the prices will go down. The only party that can resolve it earlier and actually force the price drop is ChYna in a white swan event as they flood the market with cheap green RAM.
You won't see October prices in the next 5~ years.

I have bought one of those as well. Because I have one of those ancient multi function transfer panels from the early 2000s. Basically you had a front panel that had a long ass cable that you put to the pcie slot. And idea was to transfer your rear panel ports to the front.

Well I still have one of those but don't want to transfer it internally. Instead I have that cable on the inside of my case. So I bought these to have front panel audio on that thing.

I am hopeful things will normalize by this time next year. I mean GPUs were selling for idiotic figures back in the spring after AMD got gun-shy releasing with the 5000's announced prices. Now there are many models below MSRP. Also by this time next year will have Nova Lake (and the BLLC variants) to battle Zen 6 both on long-planned support sockets that should give some meaningful competition for both motherboards and CPUs.

>>107503189
>should i get a mini-led monitor or is youtube tricking me, my main monitor got fried.
If you need a monitor for static content/productivity and/or don't want to cough up the $430 for an OLED:
https://www.bhphotovideo.com/c/product/1906746-REG/acer_um_gxxaa_103_predator_x27u_z1bmiiprx_27.html
Then yes, they are worth it now. The enhanced brightness and contrast improvements from the very-recent uplift in zone counts has really improved my recommendation in this area.

For a Mini-LED IPS that's a really solid all-around either get the MSI MAG 274UPDF E16M or KTC M27P6:
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=JranOxeRXHc

For the best non-OLED contrast at the cost of some black smearing in a Mini-LED VA nothing beats the value of the AOC Q27G40XMN atm:

the 12vhpwr connector is a massive pain in the ass if you do get a 5090. since it pulls 600w and pushes the connector to the limit, the slightest nudge on the cable where its connected to the psu disrupts the current balance making it possible to cause melting if you get unlucky and have 1-2 pins carrying most of the load to compensate for the rest of the 4 with poor connections

buy several and flip? Lmao

no, sleep is a standby mode where RAM is still powered, wakes up instantly. Hibernate images RAM to disk and powers the system off, when you power up the contents of RAM are restored form the disk and it takes longer.

>>
>>107503761
1. just install it and hope for the best. most people do this and dont ever want to think about the cable melting or actively calls it user error (its not)
2. or power limit / undervolt it so that it only pulls 500W instead of 600W giving you much needed margin so the cable doesnt melt
3. or buy an astral 5090 which has per-pin current monitoring to tell you whether your cable needs to be replugged to balance the currents

That would depend on the house. when buying 96g at 460€ we are expecting to at least double our investment, potentially triple but its riskier as white chink event can kill us wholesale, securing profit at x2 would be the main priority, once you have at least recouped your investment you can keep the rest for better deal buuuut. This makes math fairly simple, no? Also you should factor in your ability to actually sell the stuff and whatever laws your country might have about it, taxes nshiet. I think flipping one set would be trivial without any effort and pretty low risk if you can somehow get them for October prices.

I was thinking of selling my gaming laptop to get a little more cash buy a gaming Desktop. Originally I was going to build my own, but with prices being what they are right now, that doesn't look like an option...

Genuinely thinking of buying a prebuilt (especially since some of them are the same price as a ram kit) with a weaker gpu and then slapping a 3080 or 3080ti into it. I heard dual gpu setups are cool again thanks to lossless scaling. Plus, I can swap components out like I'm really building my own pea see!

My question is, what cpu should I look for? I've seen people say that the non x3d variants of amd cpus are much cheaper for around the same performance due to their higher clock speeds. Something like the 7700x?

UK btw. Budget is under 1k "great" british pounds but its slightly flexible. I think that's 1200 freedom dollars?

do I wanna build a system before DDR6 hits? these are the questions
I still should have buyedboughted before this, even close to 500€ for ram is too fucking much for little to no improvement
remind me to get a job then I will build a pc
and ram will be the tricky part then again maybe

but 6090 will be out before we swap over to DDR6 I am assuming
there will be cpu gens dropping before that
we won't be on ddr6 by 2027
>>
>>107504223
It's a terrible idea to be an early adopter for new DDR memory generations; you're paying a premium for the earliest kits.
2x 16GB 6000MT/s CL30 or better XMP bins cost well above $400, 32GB 6400MT/s CL32 cost over $500.
>>
>>107504223
if you can afford 6090 on launch then RAM prices shouldn't bother you too much if at all and you should just do whatever.
>>
>>107504255
this desu
i remember seeing 6400cl32 2x16gb kits selling out at $500-$700 in the early ddr5 days
even basic 4800cl40 2x16gb kits were hard to come by and went for $300
>>
>>107504255
yeah I know that's why I'm saying we will be on ddr5 for a minute

>>107504259
but nobody wanna pay 2000€ for ram when 90€ ram would do the same thing
or in this case 450€ ram
just because you buy that then does not mean you wanna waste money later
I should have bought the 5090 dip

>>107504267
>6400cl32 2x16gb kits selling out at $500-$700
I should have buydbougted 64gb of those for 90€ during summer after all..

I have an interesting question, I have recently built a new pc (not my first rodeo) using a b550 msi tomahawk max wifi motherboard and a 5800xt cpu. Memory is 32gb corsair vengance and gpu is rx 9070xt. When using any monitoring software like hwinfo or msi afterburner my cpu cores are stuck at 3575mhz and it doesn't show any boosting during gaming. Why would this be the case? I have a peerless assassin 120 se cooler and I haven't seen temps go past 50c during any gaming. I also get very poor scores from cpu-z. Funny thing is, when I enable game boost for the cpu in BIOS the base clocks change to 3600 mhz. I have made sure PBO is enabled and I have my XMP profile enabled but thats the only settings I have changed in the bios.
>>
>>107504296
Check chipset driver updates and Windows power plan settings.
>>
>>107504287
my guy if you have unlimited budget and the ability to get 96gb of DDR5 for 460€ in the middle of the fucking RAMcalypse you just buy immediately and close the issue for the next 5 years. What is there to think about?
>>
>>107504296
update the mobo
>>
>>107504341
>if you have unlimited budget
I don't
but maybe I wanna build in the near future
maybe I wanna scalp
maybe things will get even worse

all in all I should have buyedboughted before

I also should have bought ssds which is the next anxiety factor.....
also GPUs soon I guess, but I don't need a gpu to build a system and get it up and running while you wait for a gpu, just use igpu so that's lesser of a issue
>>
>>107504361
>>107504315
I have bios up to date for when I built it (September) and power plan is set to performance. I have tried manual PBO adjustments to no avail.
>>
>>107504341
looking at a market people are NOT overpaying for 96gb 6000c30, they are just paying 2 year old prices for kits that now cost 2000€
aka sub 500€
people are not wanting to be scalped
>>
>>107504380
>all in all I should have buyedboughted before
now when we have identified the issue get going on that L for your forehead, 450€ kits won't stay up for long.
>>
>>107504389
Chipset driver isn't the board BIOS firmware.
https://www.msi.com/Motherboard/MAG-B550-TOMAHAWK-MAX-WIFI/support#driver
There may be newer chipset drivers from AMD's site, but the latest version on the board's official support page was tested by MSI.

I know I saw them yesterday
and as I said one other kit already sold out got removed
