Imagine waking up tomorrow to find that it's January 1, 1997. What programming language are you learning, and what software are you planning to develop?
BASIC
>>107496150>do nothing until 2007>short various bank stocks>wait a few years>buy BTCWhy would you waste your time with an industry you know will be dead within 20 years?
>>107496172And what would you do with your newly fortune?
>>107496150Damn, take me with you, I'm finishedC++ or pascal btw
>>107496150Pascal.Some cool graphical stuff, some games.Maybe later C++.
None.I'm playing Doom on my Pentium II.
most definitely i am learning c++, then develop a mod for some multiplayer videogame then get hired by valve
>>107496150C and I'm gonna save the freetard world by writing my own cross-platform GUI toolkit that isn't QT or GTK.
>>107496150am I my current age or am I how old I was back in 1997and if the latter, do I still understand pointersbecause I only understood pointers in 2000I'd probably want to learn NewtonScript or AppleScript because AFAICT the only way to learn those languages is to have been gen-X or older in the 1990s>>107496172also in 1997 you can just buy Apple stock for pennies>>107496359GNOME was a response to how KDE was built on a non-free (at the time) library (QT)so you just have to head KDE off at the pass and the rest takes care of itself
Nothing. I go out and play with other kids, because I don't have a computer yet and anyway I'm too smol to learn programming.
>>107497000now
>>107496150>DevelopFuck that shit. I'm buying stock in Apple, then Google, and living a life of luxury.
In 1997Steve was chopping wood
>>107496150>What programming language are you learning, and what software are you planning to develop?Lol. No. I would buy Apple and NVIDIA actions. Programming sucks.
>>107496150Cobol.Also since I'm still in school in 1997, I'm browbeating my parents to buy Apple stock as well as cheap SKS's, AK parts kits, and spam cans of 7.62x39 and 5.45x39
>>107496150>wait until 2009>buy a few thousand bitcoin>wait a little more>become a billionaire>do absolutely nothing with the money, just let it rot in a chequing account while I live in a modest two bedroom house with a basic bitch Honda civic for shits and giggles
>>107497307>chequing
>>107497467I want those billions to be completely fucking stagnate and depreciating, I want every bank, tax collector, stock broker, and finance bro to look at my dragon's horde of fake numbers on a screen and cry over how much money is collecting dust
>>107496150C++ with Win32 API, MFC, and DirectX. And I'm probably starting out with simple games and fractal rendering, but realistically spending hours tracking down null pointers because those can be a pain in the ass under Windows 95 since there's kernel memory at 0 so it doesn't generate an exception.
>>107496893You'd have to be how old you were in 1997 with your current knowledge.
Common Lispliterally nothing would change from writing Common Lisp todaylmao get fucked retards
>>107496150>What programming language are you learning, and what software are you planning to develop?C++ and QuakeC then get to steppin on some Quake Mods using the family's Packard Bell with the Pentium MMX 166.
If it's 1997 then I do not have a computer yet, the most I have to do programming on is my C64.
>>107497065>Apple, Google and Netflix stocks in 2000>Nvidia and Bitcoin later onWhat else?
I would learn computer code and I would invent the superchip
>>107496150Probably C++ and try to get in at a company from that time that's still around now. So probably some game or mod that can catch attention to get hired.
>>107496150Clipper and Pascal
>find uncle ted and prevent 9/11>learn python
C++. Robot wife software.
>>107496150PerlCGI websites
>>107496150whatever windows 95 uses. a file manager that knows what the file is even with the extention removed - like in caja set to list view with mime type column on. also a plugin that can rename the contents of a folder or a single file with its md5/crc32/sha hash.
>>107496150I immediately invent C#, then use it to quickly build a resume screening software. Back in this time, HR had to review resumes manually- so it becomes an instant hit, and all of the big tech companies will rely on it. My software automatically filters anyone from India or with a Hindu rape rat sounding name (-esh, -jeet, longer than 8 letters). The Indian Hindu rape rat infestation of tech never takes place. Indians never get to infiltrate and censor our social media and internet, which means the news of them being pedophiles, rape rats, inbreeders, and civilization destroyers is actually seen by the whole world. Then they are no longer able to infest any country at all. Human civilization is saved. I take my trillions of dollars and use it to finance a private biological warfare operation to weaponize ebola and unleash it upon India.

>>107496150APL Quantum chemistry software that isn't fucking retarded declarative trash
>>107496150Back in '97, I was developing a system with a Power Builder front end and a C back end. I decided not to keep my Fortran, Cobol, Ada, Basic, and Pascal books from college.
>>107496228Work my way into Epstein's inner circle.
>>107498044AMD stocks when they hit $2.2, it happened twice, once after the first Phenom CPUs (2008), and once after the Bulldozer CPUs (2012).For comparison they are at $221 today.
>>107499008>The Indian Hindu rape rat infestation of tech never takes placeThat won't be up to you. It starts on the executive level because every CEOs eyes light up when the up and coming new exec tells them they can save billions in costs by hiring 1000 indians for pennies to outsource all their developers to.HR automatization won't do jack shit when entire company branches are axed or outsourced, and the guy who suggested it gets booted up to high CEO position. Then he just puts his own cousins into the head of every subsidiary, who puts his own cousins to run every section etc etc.
>>107496150In 1997 I was using Perl, mostly for admin and web CGI. I had just started at a university that used Ada as the primary language, but would also have classes using C, C++, LISP/Scheme, and VHDL. For the era, Perl was good to know. C and C++ were a good base, so I'd still learn those three. The rest were good for understanding their respective niches but I would have been better off learning Java.
