I'm creating a new linux distro /g/ heres the features it will have

>Debian 13 based
>XFCE+X11 as its main edition and ONLY edition
>Forked mint utils like software manager, update manager, driver manager, bluetooth
>tastefully themed
>>
>>107498960
Why not just use Mint XFCE instead of this
>>
>>107499032
Because mint is based on ubunga, and they are doing changes I dont like, I dont trust them, I dont like their direction in neglecting XFCE and I have nothing better to do with my time.

They could something like remove the XFCE edition like zorin did with zorinOS lite.
>>
>>107498960
Does it come with systemd?
>>
>>107499058
They haven't removed the MATE edition which has literally zero use case. Maintaining these editions isn't hard for the Mint team; the only reason they got rid of the Plasma edition is because it deprecated the Cinnamon edition in every way.
>>
>>107499058
Debian is trans (mtf) thoughbeit.

MATE > XFCE

Don't we have enough Linux distros already?
What's stopping someone from just getting those packages themselves on a Debian install?
>>
>>107499129
They arent available on a debian install, thats the problem, I will fork them, remove all mint branding, sources, repos etc, retrofit it for debian. make all the utils work on debian

There is no debian linux mint XFCE currently. Also I just dont like the mint team in general their failed cinnamon desktop which is slower than windows 10 is not fine to me. They created some good software though in terms of utilities, I'll give them that even if it is python shit.
>>
>>107498960
Thank god the most based OS in existence (Qubes) ships with X11/XFCE/Debian 13 by default
>>
>>107498960
>Forked mint utils like software manager, update manager
One of the worst parts about Mint is that the software manager and update manager are two separate programs. Just make them one like Discover/GNOME Software/pamac.
>>
>xfce
not even once

Sounds good so far. Give it a cute mascott and I'll switch. I'm on mint XFCE already.

it chooses gnome if you only select that

So what happens if you uncheck it?

No XFCE edition and the mint devs are hell bent on shoving cinnamon and slow nemo down everyones throats. I dont like the mint devs.

nothing

Why did they make it checkable then? Are they stupid?

XFCE is deprecated for LXDE, did no one tell OP? Welp, that's embarassing.

What? isn't QubeOS dom0 based on Fedora?
>>
>>107499307
sudo apt remove cinnamon
sudo apt autoremove
sudo apt install xfce4

If you are too retarded to figure this out then don't bother making your own distro
>>
>>107499438
I dont want cinnamon or the retarded mint devs interfering with my OS. Also someone needs to fork their tools since they are focusing on cinnamon. I hate cinnamon. I hate nemo.
>>
>>107499430
Yeah, but you don't actually use dom0 for much - it's just for changing your global theme settings and managing VMs and stuff like that. dom0 doesn't connect to the internet, you don't install new programs in it (at least you're not supposed to) all your actual user-space activity is done on AppVMs which can be anything. It ships with Fedora42 and Debian13 templates for AppVMs out of the box. I do mostly everything through Debian13. Anyway not trying to turn this into a Qubes thread just wanted to clarify since you asked me about it.

Just make another mouse mascot, call it a male and make it Xue's boyfriend. Konqi was canonically given a girlfriend just so he'd have somebody to fuck and make out with, so that should apply here too
>>
>>107499450
Retard, who do you think keeps your shit updated?
>>
>>107499459
Okay thanks for the clarification, but is XFCE running in dom0 or in one of the domUs? I know that you can use DEs and window managers through containers, but I don't know if that's possible with VMs, would be interesting if that is so, I've been thinking about trying Qubes for a while now
>>
>>107500639
NTA but here's just to clear up confusion
Qubes is a distribution of Xen, not linux. it's a type-1 hypervisor with a bunch of tools preinstalled.
dom0 is an air-gapped fedora VM running xfce4, that's the only distribution you cannot change because it's where the admin tools are. Individual windows from other VMs running qubes guest tools (which can be running any distribution you want) get seamlessly rendered inside of the dom0 window manager with color-coded window borders.
>>
>>107500639
Also you can choose to run VMs without using the qubes guest tools and have them rendered in a little self-contained window if you want, similar to what you'd get with virtualbox or whatever. But you can't fully change your desktop environment to one running inside a guest VM because that would be a security risk. Qubes is a giga hardcore strict security focused operating system and dom0 is intended to be authoritative over everything else, so technically giving a guest VM the ability to write directly to the screen or allowing it to render full-screen over top of the dom0 desktop environment would open up an unacceptable vector of attack
>>
>>107500639
I'm the anon you replied to (not >>107500751)
It comes with XFCE by default, but it's not hard to install Gnome or KDE and use those instead (not that you'd ever want to! Ugh!)
>but is XFCE running in dom0 or in one of the domUs?
Right now XFCE is running in dom0, but in future versions, it's to separate things out even more so that the entire GUI runs in its own sys-gui VM.

I will say I don't really like Fedora. I don't like dnf. I like debian and apt. Even though dom0 (adminVM) is running on fedora, funnily enough it stays out of my way. It's hard to explain what I mean if you haven't tried it. Like I said it's a different paradigm. But I agree with the overall premise of your thread that there should be more XFCE+X11+Debian distros. It's a good stack.
>>
>>107499303
It removes the debian theme
I.e. GRUB theme, debian wallpapers, etc

Sounds like the autism chud express. Go for it lad.
>>
>>107499303
Debian but without graphical interface or window manager. You can install them afterwards but if you dont want a graphical welcome screen you need to run a command every time, startx for example

Yeah, the world really needs another distro.
>>
good luck op. have you considered using a base distro with a better package manager, or do you plan on sticking with apt/replacing it while staying with debian? I personally can't imagine sticking with apt outside of a server, but you're using xfce so it seems like a desktop distro. keep us updated!
>>
>>107498960
XFCE + a proper (tiling) wm at the very least.
>>

lmde?

LMDE only has a Cinnamon version for now
OP is still retarded though

It seems like it would be easier to just install XFCE on LMDE rather than do >>107498960
