Firefox's built-in video player has a maximum speed of 2x. Is there any way to increase it and have that reflected in the UI? I know there's a console command for it, and it works fine, but I'd like to know if I can make it permanent with userChrome.css or about:config or something else. The console command is:

document.querySelector('video').playbackRate = 4

And no, I don't plan on watching videos at 4x speeds to accelerate the brainrot, I'm mostly just curious about how it works.

You could modify the source, looks like in browser/locales/en-US/browser/browserContext.ftl and browser/base/content/browser-context.inc, search for media-play-speed and try adding entries for speeds you want.
There's probably a plugin for it but that's for nocode fags.

Nice. Mozilla should let you change stuff like this directly from the Settings menu, instead of having to scrounge around through all kinds of files or userChrome or however you did it.

You could also learn how to fucking use a search engine.

But I feel lonely and want to have a conversation with my online buddies. Anyway, here's what ChudGPT has to say about it:

By default, Firefox only shows a limited number of video player speed options in the right-click context menu. However, you can easily customize this to show more options. Here's how:

Method 1: Using the media.defaultPlaybackRate preference

Open a new tab in Firefox and type about:config in the address bar. Press Enter to access the Configuration Editor.
In the search bar, type media.defaultPlaybackRate and press Enter.
Double-click on the media.defaultPlaybackRate preference to open its settings.
In the popup, add the speed options you want to see in the context menu, separated by commas. For example: 0.25, 0.5, 0.75, 1, 1.25, 1.5, 2
Click OK to save the changes.

Method 2: Using the media.videoControls.playbackRate.enabled preference

Open a new tab in Firefox and type about:config in the address bar. Press Enter to access the Configuration Editor.
In the search bar, type media.videoControls.playbackRate.enabled and press Enter.
Double-click on the media.videoControls.playbackRate.enabled preference to toggle its value to true.
Restart Firefox.

After applying either method, you should see more video player speed options in the right-click context menu when playing videos in Firefox.

Note: If you want to revert to the default behavior, simply reset the preferences to their original values.

I just use custom JS bookmark.
The problem though this cause a very high CPU usage since it's uses SW decoding instead.

After researching it a bit, I have concluded that it's way too much work. I'm just gonna stick to the console commands. God knows what kinds of files I have to rummage through for so little gain.
