New money making tip. Go to ewaste centres looking for computers made obsolete by Windows 10 ending and salvage their ram chips and sell to gamers and data centers. Yes there will be stuff like old DDR versions and non ECC but second tier ram hierarchies will use them.

Must be nice, living in a country where this is a thing. It's crazy how many computers and such Americans throw away each year.

>computers made obsolete by Windows 10 ending
they dont exist, you're obviously a retard.
>>

>Go to ewaste centres
this is a north american thing
>>
>>107506617
> people have been convinced their computer can't work anymore, even though it works right in front of their eyes
> take it to ewaste center instead of sell it
are people really this fucking retarded?
>>

Yes.
>>
funny because most of those RAM modules, even if it's DDR 4 will be under 2400mhz so will be too slow for what people would want to use it for
>>

No, it's a UK thing perhaps since OP spoke bong (centres). US waste management is privatized so they don't give away recyclable precious metals.
>>
>>107506641
Must be disgusting living in a 3rd world shithole though I have no doubts you personally are a great contributor to the culture.

>US waste management is privatized
Imagine having the government run such an operation.
Would be wasteful as hell. Both literally and figuratively.
>>
>>107508977
The alternative would be to landfill it, anon.

OY VEY! DON'T UPGRADE TO BETTER PERFORMING EQUIPMENT, GOYIM!
JUST KEEP USING YOUR OLD AND SLOW PC!
LEAVE ALL THE LATEST HARDWARE TO PERSONS SUCH AS MYSELF WHO DESPERATELY NEED THE NEWER HARDWARE ONLY FOR OURSELVES!
>>
>>107506617
I WILL NOT GO TO THE RAM PITS
I WILL GET MY NEETBUCKS FROM UNCLE SAM

Here's the thing though. Lets say the RAMpocalypse lasts for several years. Sure long term people are gonna buy because they have to. However from what I am seeing right now, you got a lot of people who have been sitting on old hardware are selling their old RAM and the people buying the RAM are the ones speculating. Second the whole PC hardware market is kept afloat by young adult and teens FOMO, so they end up being upselled and buy the latest stuff, meaning latest gen, irrespective of how sensible it is. IE, entry buyer are very biased towards new stuff. They also are extremely averse to buying used.

I think DDR3 and to a lesser extent DDR4 is not gonna have enough demand, unless the shortage last for many years. So u either sell right now to speculators or ur playing a long game. DDR 5 will sell, but people are going to slow down their spending as well, so it might not be as big as gold mine as one thinks.

I'd be careful investing too much. I think however fully functional systems might sell better, if u the old obtuse mystery box sleaze. The real winners are going to be the deep homelab nerds.

What's the most recent thing you can get there? What kind of pcs' are we talking about?
>>
>>107506617
I think you overestimate the need for RAM. The used market is already flooded with it all the time. This is not the same thing as with graphics cards. DDR4 exists for over a decade and DDR5 for almost half a decade. The technology didn't really change, I can still buy the same RAM module I used when I built my computer in 2016.

As soon as you've opened the package of a new module, it lost the majority of its value because it is considered used now.

I'm looking at the local used market right now: 16 GB DDR5 for 40 bucks on page 1.

You can get some decent PCs there. Not going to have the latest stuff. Could be 5 or 10 years old and probably won't be top of the line. Maybe low-mid-rage of the year. Good for kids to tinker with since it's inexpensive.

DDR4 and good GPUs tend to show up frequently at e-recycling centers.
>>
>>107513070
How does this even happen? Where do you go and what do you tell them to give you access and tech stuff?
I live in England and have never heard of such a thing.

If only you knew how retarded people really are

MFW having to deal with REACH and state nanny'ism.

AFAIK (not the guy u responded to), ur getting through work, or a company looks while form you rummaging. Big companies probably won't do this, because with e-waste law might be up your butt and certainly nowadays they are aware of the value of ewaste stuff. Some people will just take the chance and rummage through return points tied to hardware or electronic stores, but that's literally theft. Here they literally got cameras and an automated system (guess they can afford that those fuckers).

I never tried meeting up in person at a recycle station, but I'd imagine if ur local and buddy buddy then maybe u can get away with some stuff. Problem again is with big chains or recycle companies.

It motivates a person to unironically start a repurpose company. They literally sell the scrap to asia and now perversely, aided by politicians. Of course the politicians keep jerking themselves off to green new deals, while sucking corporate dick. Fuck.
