Linux music players are technology. So let me shill the most amazing one that design focused GNOMERs will know to appreciate (KDE users do not reply) (posted from KDE) the name isEuphonica (flatpak installed) [MPD client with delusions of grandeur]it's an MPD client, MPD is a cock to setup that makes no sense whatsoever to have in current year, but THIS is the besst music player client ever made on Lonisx OS +gnu/. I know because I tried all of them, Gappless, Recordbox, Amberol, Vvave(shit), Tauron(autistic and yet not that feature'full), Strawberry(just why?)...No it doesn't have all the features, but this is the best UX (excluding having to install a worthless suckless-nile music streaming server)Sayonara and especially Elisia are banned from this thread. THanks and discuss. What music player do you use?
>minimize buttonyou aren't really using GNOME
>>107521189Audacious is the best, deadbeef second bestEvery client for mpd sucks ass unfortunately
>>107521252Shitposting from my desktop ATM which has KDE - for reasons - although with all GNOME apps installed instead of KDE defaults. My OLED laptop is running proper GNOME, with burn in from the top GNOME bar, but that's fine since it's a stupid usecase for OLED and I wouldn't dare use extensions to change it. I also only watch anime on the laptop and never do anything useful, not sure if that matters. But GNOME just works, anyway... music players?
>>107521292>AudaciousI couldn't ban all nonsense players from being dissuades now could I. Albeit I didn't try Audacious in particular, but it looks exactly like all the boomers shit I tried already.>Every client for mpd sucks ass unfortunatelyI just posted one that's amazing. So amazing I'm using MPD when I absolutely hate the idea of running a server for my local files, BECAUSE OF the client, but maybe you have some proper criticism of Euphonica, since it's a shit MPD client. What do you need your music player to do you can't live without?
any music playeys that upscale everything to DSD?
>>107521332sounds like some golden plated levitating snake cable nonsense.. use case?
>>107521189I hate rounded windows so much.
>>107521353Evanescence is discount Nightwish for retards.
I use strawberry because it has some support for internet radio which I use a lot. I'd prefer to use a good internet radio player and a good music player but instead I use a single program that does poorly at both things.
>>107521353Take me back.
sayonara banned, why?it has the most comfy layout.however i'm using mixxx these days with my custom skin and commands. only thing i really miss is the 'eye candy' of having an album art overview like sayonara. but the crossfade, midi and jack support go a long way for mixxx.
>>107521466oh cool. Please tell me more about your music player opinions
I just want foobar. Nothing else handles giant libraries as well.
>>107521605>sayonaraSayonara is indeed the most feature full client. Nothing comes close on Loonix, but it's still boomer UI and I actually meant to ban strawberry (what a shilled disaster with no use case) >>107521572>mixxxI didn't want to know this exists, thank you sir for ruining my night, I thought the best TUI autists have is ncmpcpp. It can always get worse of course.
>>107521650Foobar? that's like a mobile app? I know of it because it's the only one which can open a folder in a different location on iOS (useful when syncing the library with syncthing)>>107521572You can also use Shortwave for a specialized radio player that still doesn't work all that well, but has a killer miniplayer... so KAWAI!
>>107521189>Tauron(autistic and yet not that feature'full)i like tauon a just a player but it is missing a lot of featuresyou need to pair it with musicbrainz picard to edit track metadata
>>107521795the biggest redpill to be dropped in the thread: I use beets(pip install beets) to auto magically manage all the nonsense. It's kind of ass and the furthermost autism I will tolerate. No GUI actually works as well at making a bunch of random tracks downloaded from Soulseek.booomers into real albums with metadata, artwork , proper titles an whatever. You need to read the docs although.then the client can just focus on being pretty, no need for it to download your artwork, my library just werks everywhere :)
>>107521765Yeah I tried Shortwave and a few others and none of them really work the way I'd like.
if I use this will I still have to open up quod libet to properly tag things
>>107521706beware that it uses multiple decks from the get go, so you need some magic to have it behave as a normal music player where an easy play/pause between all decks would work.the xml skinning is daunting, eventually you can remove enough stuff to have it look like an ordinary player. the library is lightning fast so this helps for large libraries, and i like the preview waveforms, colored by whats happening in the track.
>>107521189when you say recordbox do you mean rekordbox by pioneer? because if so I need a fucking explanation about how you got that working on linuxi can't even get it to sync to a usb through a windows VM with passthrough
>>107521650try >>107521942 it's the only thing i've foundugly and not as nice for album art as foobar but quod libet is meant for big libraries and the search works well at least, it also has a directory mode which I prefer
>>107521949damn i only use mixxx with a DJ deck, didn't know people actually like it as a music client. i guess that makes senseyou should buy a cheap deck off ebay and find an xml mapping for it online. it's a fun hobby. mixxx works good for it, but a recent update fucked up the looping macros I had and I haven't been able to fix it even after diving in deep
Is there any music player out there that is able to show a column for the songs sample rate in kHz (not bitrate, i know plenty can do that)?
>>107521189you use GNOME apps on KDE. you desecrate Konqi's holy temple with your GTK faggotry. you desecrate your ears with nostalgiabait boomer rap. this is not the way, but you can still learn, if you give up your foot fetish, apple faggot-like ways. 1) the holy grail music player for the K sextop environment is fooyin, it is truly blessed by Kandalf2) Puya is boomer nostalgiabait, i grew up with this shit and there are only a couple of tracks i can listen to without cringing nowadays, find better taste in '00s Romanian rap
Is harmonoid good?
i want a cli music player but ncmpcpp and rmpc can't (or i'm too stupid) to sort by artist or album in playlists
>>107521959>rekordbox by pioneer?no, just a GNOMER made music client entitled "recordbox">>107522053your best try might be quodlibet>>107521942actually CLI? I unfortunately had to learn about the existence of 'mpc' client (for mpd server), which is just that.... and the answer is: NO. It can't sort the PLAYLISTs.>>107522061Alright boomer. I find it incredibly funny how the KDE music players are about as featureless as the GTK ones and honestly the only ones which fail FUNDAMENTALLY.fooyin is the only player I tried which can't take the folder name as the album name, it shows 0 albums, 0 artists topkek. And all the views seem to be a spreadsheet of tracks at best, but it has a "log" and "script editor", priorities.and in the case of Elisia, the slowest UI of ALL the players I've tried, even the playback has stutters at the start>>107522167>fluttereverything is cool as long as it plays your music. even if it looks like an android app. right. no racisms over here. Altough the GNOME way is superior
>>107522061>Puya is boomer nostalgiabaitalso -emdash- true
It pisses me off that some players have spotify integration but the faggots at spotify won't give them access to higher bitrate audio even though you still have to sign in to fucking use it.
>he needs a graphics for his music player
>>107523517does it have ratings?easily search large databases, and scroll those results?
>>107521630Moody got cucked so hard.
>>107523542>ratings?Don't know, probably not. But I have filtered by play count to see what tracks I listen to the most.>easily search large databasesDepends what you consider easy. You can not just search, but make custom filters based on tags, filenames, and so on, and even put filters within filters
Fooyin for offline collectionWacup via proton for online radio browsing and playing( ignore the pulp fiction cover art. something bugged like 20 years ago in my music folder in xp and now every new song i've added since then has that image as its cover art for some reason. it's OS agnostic, it's cursed )
I tried almost every music player when I move to Linux and I ended up using foobar2000 over wine because they all suck.
>>107521189quodlibet.
>>107521189Why do you have Fisher Price / Psych Ward - rounded corners? It's still funny how some people are not insulted by large fonts and circular corners. You see, round shapes have a certain design language associated with certain things.
>>107521630Bottom left is best
>>107521447>posts a rounded window
I just use Tauon after years of using Musicbee on windowsI don't have a big library anymore, I don't even use it much. I actually felt the opposite in terms of functionality, I liked that initially it looks featureless, but it has a lot of hidden functionality.
>>107523517Exquisite taste in music
>>107521189for me it's cmus
>>107521189People still use music players?I just open the Music folder in the file browser.
I use DeadBeef on Arch. It plays every music file (strawberry couldnt play wma files flr somd reason) and you can easily import internet radio stations. Deadbeef is on windows as well, but it sucks there.
>>107521572Strawberry is the only linux player I've found that doesn't choke on my playlist. I'm completely dumbfounded that so many music players are just a pretty skin made by people who don't even have 1000+ songs on their drive, but they clearly don't because they'd realise how fucking godawful they run.
>>1075264314px is not rounded considering modern GUIs, sir.
>>107527277Rounded is rounded, i dont make the rules. Its not rounded to the point of gayness but its still rounded.
>Still no MusicBee equivalentToy OS
>>107521189UI looks like some shit for mobile phones
>>107521189NT masterrace now go fuck yourself with your dragondildo freetard
>>107521189been looking for an mpd player, will check it out.cantata is what i've been using for a few years now.
>>107521765>Foobar? that's like a mobile app?Bait or underage.
>>107521189does it support albums? for example let's say I open a file in a directory, will the program figure out I am playing a track of an album and show me the rest of the tracks in the interface? I know this is a low bar but yeah some players are just good at playing files and forget about the rest
>>107528788so it's an mpd client, so you need to setup your library ahead of time, you can just add folders and scan them in but can't just open files/folders like standalone music players.

>>107521189i ve gotten over GUI music players anon. ncmpcpp is all i need.
>>107529897sorry if this feels spam but the first screencap is just horrible
well actually... trying to open Euphonica straight from the file explorer crashes it kek. You have to drop your files where MPD is configured to look, then just navigate inside the client itself (.app).The navigation is barebones, but good enough for me. There’s some UI bugs and sorting is definitely bugged right now. That said, because it’s running on MPD under the hood I honestly think this thing could handle 10k tracks without blinking. My library’s on an external drive, and every other client I’ve tried shits the bed and forces a full rescan of ~500 songs every reboot, and oh boy does that take forever. With MPD I’ve literally never noticed it indexing, it kinda just races through everything in the background like it’s no big deal.
Thanks OP, it's pretty sweet. Still will probably use my main for daily use (cantata) but this might be my new one soon.
