>>

The Turbo button ran your CPU as full clock speed (eg 66MHz). Some older software (like games) from a 25MHz 386 would run too fast for you to actually use them.
Turning off the Turbo button would downclock your CPU to around 25MHz so you could use older software normally.
Warcraft II Tides of Darkness is one example I remember needing to be downclocked.

ackshulley they would just say "GNU" in 1991 since they thought they would be making a complete system

You should learn Pascal, Ada, Lisp, and Smalltalk because that's what everything is going to be written in for the rest of the decade and the start of next millennium until we get better languages. Also did you hear about those Lisp machine expansion cards they make for Macs? Finally I'll be able to have a Lisp machine at an affordable price. I can't wait to run some AI programs at home.

Hey guys, I was looking through Usenet the other day and found out about some Finnish guy making his own free operating system. It sounded pretty cool.

I wonder if we'll ever be able to run a full operating system consisting only of free software.

I had this Eizo monitor from like 2002 to 2004.
It was standing on the curb for e-waste, took it home and it served me well for those years.
Since it was a 21inch monitor from 1990 or so the tube was already really tired and dim but still a great monitor.
Thing was an absolute BEAST with its flat tube. Heavy as fuck you can't even imagine.

>>107529212
It was the opposite anon, you pushed the turbo button to downclock the CPU. Then again it may have been different between makes. My first PC had one and I had to push the turbo button or the incredible machine would run too fast.
>>
>>107529212
I thought it usually downclocked to around 8 MHz FSB, doubled to 16 if you had a DX2, making it perform similarly to 16-25 MHz 386.
>>
>>107532074
No, it starts up at 66 and you push turbo to make it go slower.
