I find 4chan XT insanely useful, I couldn't imagine browsing this place without it. Are there any other extensions/userscripts that implement broad site improvements like that? Enhancer for YouTube comes to mind. Yes, there are others for YouTube, but I haven't tried them. And I guess there are some R*ddit enhancement suites, but I rarely use that site.
>>
>>107536416
What features are in it that you'd consider indispensable?
>>
>>107536429
Off the top of my head:
>Thread/reply watcher
>Gallery View (with a slight CSS change to make it grid based)
>easy and highly customizable filtering (and I even learned a bit of Regex to make it work properly)
>url uploads (even though Windows File Explorer kind of does that too)
>keeps userscript settings even if you browse in private mode
>image name randomizer (not a must-have, but still good)
>file converter
I'm sure there's more, but these came immediately to mind.
>>
>>107536451
Oh, and zoom on hover as well. I couldn't understand why other anons kept going on and on about extensions that do that, but I was taking it for granted the entire time because 4chan XT already does it.
>>
>>107536480
And I forgot to mention the archive related stuff like automatically restoring deleted posts or redirecting 404'd threads.
>>
>>107536451
of those vanilla 4chan can do most, except file name randomizing and file conversion and why the fuck you'd need those. are you a phonefag?
>>
I use this: https://greasyfork.org/nl/scripts/490894-4chan-gallery
I'm just looking for a proper, working captcha solver. I know the one from the proxy site works but I don't want to use the site because it's overall a worse experience when posting
>>107536548
>file conversion
when I want to post via link and the original image is a webp, I can't do so because 4chan has no webp support. xt converts it for me. on pc, thought I'd clarify
>>
>>107536548
I don't know about that. Maybe I was underselling it because I kept remembering stuff and posting after I made the initial reply.

>Does 4chan have a built-in gallery view for images?
>Can you filter by image MD5/subject field/comment field? I guess maybe you can if you know enough regex, but I don't. 4chan XT makes it easy to switch fields when filtering.
>Can you keep thread settings (hidden, watched) saved in private mode? Maybe you could export the settings I guess, but that seems tedious.
>Can you make zoom on hover depend on whether you're in the catalog or the thread?
>Can you automatically redirect threads to the archive or restore posts?
Genuinely asking btw, I haven't played around with 4chan's default settings too much.
>>
>>107536596
So you are posting lossy transcoded images. gotcha.
>>
>>107536596
I know about that gallery view, but you can accomplish similar things by adding custom CSS to 4chan XT. Maybe you can add it to default 4chan as well since it has a custom CSS field, I haven't tried. This is a modified version another anon posted:

/* gallery grid */

.gal-viewport {
width: 40%;
}
.gal-thumbnails {
width: 100%;
flex: 0 0 40%;
flex-flow: wrap;
align-content: flex-start;
}
.gal-name {
position: fixed;
left: 25px;
top: 5px;
}
:root.gal-fit-height:not(.gal-pdf):not(.gal-hide-thumbnails) .gal-buttons {
right: 0px !important
}

.thread > .postContainer:not(.catalog-container) {
margin: auto;
width: 75%;
}
.summary {
margin-left: 12.5%;
display: block;
padding-left: 2px;
}

I'm a big fan of 4chan-xt too. Pasting imaging into the quick reply form and having them resized and converted on the fly is amazing.
>>
>>107536416
My favorite way of reading 4chan is 4g.el for Emacs. I still have to post with a browser though.

I'm still using 4chan-x
Should I switch?
>>
>>107543728
Yes. It'll feel pretty similar, but little things have been improved here and there.
>>
>>107544420
on 4chan x when you return to a thread you go back to the last post you scrolled down to. Is there a setting for that on xt? Don't like having to rescroll the thread

4chan XT still has that. See the pic for details. It's a fork of 4chan X, so the feature set is almost the same. It's just maintained a bit more actively.
>>

>scroll to last read post
I was already checked and it doesn't work it seems.
>>
>>107544544
It works for me on 4chan XT. I haven't tried X, so I can't compare, but I've had no issues with it. If it doesn't work on XT for you, make sure some other extension or browser setting isn't interfering with it.

It worked for me, too. I'm using Floorp 12 (a Firefox derivative) and Violentmonkey for userscripts. What browser and userscript manager are you using?

Whats the difference between X and XT? I've been using X for over a decade now
>>
>>107545051
I like the automatic image conversion if a file is unsupported or too large.
>>
>>107545264
Does that work with pasting from clipboard? If so I'll switch immediately

For some reason 4chanX image filter stopped working correctly for me about a year ago, it still filters images I don't want, but it also filters a lot of images I never added to the filter. In a full image thread there will be at least 1-3 false positives.
>>
>>107545313
Yes, it works with pasting images.
>>
>>107545361
That's great, I've been enlightened ITT

They don't show up for me. I think I must've blocked them with uBlock Origin at some point, but my custom filters page is huge and I'm too lazy to check.

>Whats the difference between X and XT?
New features since the fork include:

Fetching the thread from an external archive and inserting deleted posts
Basic audio posts support
Automatically converting unsupported image files to png
Automatically JPG'ing image files above the size limit
Having both relative time and a timestamp on a post at the same time
Counting poster ID's as a replacement of the deleted IP counter
Hiding all posts from a poster ID in a thread
A manifest v3 version for chromium browsers dropping support for v2
A button to un-randomize a filename in the quick reply
Showing the reason a post was filtered in the stub
Marking replies to your post on the scroll bar

Sorry for the formatting, I copy-pasted.
