>>107540809>7 year old computer is faster than 13 year old computerwoah
>>107541077I take it the thought is that it is shocking because the laptop is notably faster than the desktop from only a bit more than a half decade before.

>>107541061>>107541077you have to understand the boomer illiterate normie mindset. they look at their """rig""" (pic related) and they see a 20 year old Porsche 911. >does it run? does it start? then why the damn hell should i upgrade??for them a pc is a lifelong investment, like a car or a house. they can not comprehend hardware deprecation.
>>107541181>you have to understand the boomer illiterate normie mindsetI am not even 20 kek>for them a pc is a lifelong investment, like a car or a house. they can not comprehend hardware deprecation.I have owned maybe 10 PCs (I fixed and resold PCs for several of my teenage years when I needed quick money)--I know that it is far from some "lifelong" investment.
>>107541181>for them a pc is a lifelong investment, like a car or a houseWhat dipshit thinks a vehicle will last their whole life?

>>107541278cool, someone can change the oil. my bmw is at only 200k but in my defense it's a relatively new model
>>107541295>cool, someone can change the oil.500k/30=16.7k--what do you mean? There is no reason to drive more than 17k a year.
>>107541359The reason most cars die is people simply stop doing maintenance. And rust.

Whatever you do, don't go comparing CPUs to the Q6600.I have a 4570 tower kicking around with 32GB of RAM at 84W but, like, I could use a 7500T system at 35W with 64GB of RAM. Ivy lake & Haswell are rough if you care about efficiency, once you get to skylake, kaby etc the T & U series CPUs start stepping up. When Intel realised they had to compete with AMD, things really went out the window. But that doesn't mean that the hardware's useless, like, it's still better for the environment to use what you have rather than buying new hardware, same goes for ewaste. If a U series CPU can get you buy, just use it.For my 3570k and 16GB of RAM sitting in a waste bucket in my hallway. One day if I ever find a motherboard cheap enough it might come back, but hard to justify in this age. The cost of a PSU and HDD would be about what some ewaste special will be in 3-5 years and the ewaste special will outperform it.
>>107543280I am tempted to buy one of those old Xeon dual cpu 64T 512 GiB ECC DDR3 servers that pop up on eBay every few weeks for $350. The 14 GiB and 20GiB I have in my 3570 often get maxed out with my >4000 FF tabs and a half dozen other applications open, causing one of them to get killed and me losing some work. However, I am a bit poor and having a laptop would be nice for school...
>>107540809Don't you dare diss the i5-3570 anon. I had the same CPU up until about a year ago when I finally upgraded, but that thing served me well for YEARS. Even in ~2024 it still held its own for a pretty wide variety of games and demanding software. I loved that little guy. Now he's faithfully serving as the heartbeat and soul of my homeserver.
