I know Reddit loves this story, but I've always felt like it was bullshit. VLC is only useful because it's free and doesn't contain ads. The second you put ads in it, people will uninstall it en masse. So there was never really millions of dollars to be made in the first place.

Been starting to have issues with vlc so tried mpv. I like it but it lacks features. Very quickly I needed to ability to offset subtitles timings. So I went back to k-lite for the first time in many years and I really like it.
