Most sodium lights are shielded and have some sort of hood to reflect and direct the light towards the street.And most LED streetlights are just sodium posts retrofitted with LEDs, meaning they use the exact same shielding in most cases.The reason LEDs have a less narrow beam pattern is not due to shielding, but because of the bulb design. LEDs are much smaller and much brighter than sodium bulbs, meaning much more light from a smaller area. That much brighter light is reflected on the ground and pollutes the sky way worse than sodium lights.
