Has anybody experimented with different LLMs for local prompt enhancement? Command R is the best model that isn't badly slopped, but it is pretty outdated and probably too big to be worth loading and unloading. I'm thinking modern 4b models are probably at a sweet spot. Qwen is pretty slopped, but it knows Chinese and can follow instructions well even at 4b. Gemma seems like the other obvious small model contender.

I just feel dirty using prompt enhancement. I'm so used to making an initial gen, then tweaking my prompt for each element that I feel it is missing or is incorrect. That's also why I don't like slow models like Chroma.

Since you can only directly use Qwen3 4B as a clip, you can use any LLM you want and just paste into conditioning. But make sure to set it properly to limit walls of text. Qwen is fine, really. Gemma is for writefaggotry and too verbose.

I haven't messed around much with prompt enhancement, but I absolutely love wildcards. I've got a bunch of nested wildcards that generate a whole bunch of different scenes and characters for an RPG I'm never going to run, but it is cool to see things combine in unexpected ways. Unfortunately, newer models with better prompt adherence are less likely to surprise and the wildcard nesting is getting more and more unwieldy as I have to add more elements to get the variety I'm looking for. I figure if I feed the wildcards to an LLM to write a full-fledged prompt I can vastly simplify my wildcards and start adding more abstract stuff to my wildcards and letting the LLM fill in the gaps.

Mistral is very popular, but I don't have good experiences with it for writing. It's just too slopped. However, I do need to consider that something might make a decent prompt even if it is abhorrent to read. I just want to avoid seeing too many elements repeated because the LLM is so devoted to slop. The only recent models that can sometimes avoid the slop are huge, so maybe I'm just stuck with it no matter what.
