IDK if AI research is that much about coding the right algorithm as much as knowing how to make a pipeline with proper reinforcement learning that could help you train the AI better. For all you know the best minds developing AI could be writing worse code then junior webdevs or just make flowcharts and then just have team of codemonkeys or vibe coding turn it into something viable.
