AI can put it to better use. In fact you don't need electricity in your house. The AI will make better use of that and help progress humanity.

You can hardly open any browser tabs with just 16GB of RAM these days. YouTube tabs take 2GB each on Firefox.

This kind of reminds me of the GPU mining demand a few years back and how the market was fucked until mining became too unprofitable for most users.
I hope something similar happens with RAM for AI for a consumers standpoint.
For an anti-doomer perspective, we might actually get more polished software out of this and end up ahead when ram comes back down in price.

First of all, bad. Stop doing that. Just use AI for that and believe whatever it tells you.

But also, you're missing the bigger picture - companies don't care about AI on the edge (on your computer anymore). It's better for them, in every way, when you just send your data to their AI datacenter, under the terms of some EULA that says "We value your privacy; we sell everything you do to our 3210821602 partners with zero restrictions on what they can do with it, fuck you".
So guess what. That's what they're all doing now. Why give you privacy.

like ethnically replacing white workers with H1visa holders, Ai companies realized that the only way to get mass adoption of their shitty product is to make the world shittier for everyone else so their garbage looks good in comparision. Nobody replaced white geniuses in the 90s with jeets because 150 iq chads are obviously > 80 iq jeet subhumans. but after almost 20 years of commoncore, the tech industry in california can only source locally grown 90 iq whites who cant even read at a high school level, so in comparision 80 iq jeets look like a good deal at half the price.

Has anyone else noticed over the decades that as computer technology increases, the quality of computer programing decreases???

I think there are many reasons for this. One is it's you can hire cheaper programmers to write inefficient code and make up the difference with computer performance. Then this NEW software will have higher requirements, which drive hardware sales. This trend has gone on for decades, until it's reaching it's peak with LLMs. LLMs are not new or elegant or sophisticated. It's old 90's technology that's being super charged with modern hardware.

The delicious irony that ITT demonstrates so well is they've reached diminishing returns to such a degree that the trend may now reverse. With less memory available we may be forced to go back to better programing. Alas tho, everything has been re-geared and retooled for AI fueled vibe coding. With out a change in course I see this tail spinning into a death spiral very quickly.

When the dust settles tho, I wonder which ideology will rein supreme. Hardware focused computers, or software focused computers? Which will win out in the end I wonder.

I bet AI is like the patsy in a spook organisation assassination (a little bit like it). Oswald didn't kill JFK and the AI data centers probably are not suddenly buying tons of RAM. JFK was killed by Israel and the US spooks were happy about the assassination so they covered it up. Similarly (kind of), the RAM oligopoly is artificially limiting the supply probably.

The BASIC interpreter has to live somewhere. If you don't need it you can overwrite it and use all 64K once you have some machine code loaded and don't need it anymore. You can overwrite it before then too but it'll crash and you'll have to reboot it. There isn't an OS kernel watching and waiting to bonk you if you touch memory that isn't yours.
>>
>>107559990
It needs various stacks and heaps in RAM to function but the code itself for BASIC is in ROM. It's the address space that's the problem. If you're bits of memory in the same address space as the ROM, you live life on easy mode, only needing to work when ML is loaded.

>The BASIC interpreter has to live somewhere.
it doesn't live in ram, the issue is that the C64's address space is also 64k, so even things in rom mask out that space that would otherwise be ram.
it's like how 32bit machines never show the full 4GiB available, since 4GiB is the total possible addressable memory of 32bit, not all of it can be ram, some of it has to be allocated to things besides main memory

Good, this means game devs have to actually OPTIMIZE their shit code instead on relying on the user having more specs such as a bigger ram
>>
>>107552547
You do know there is a difference between being optimistic and being delusional right?

No lmao they will just make you stream everything instead and you're a retard if you think otherwise. They've been trying to normalize that for years anyway.

Wasn't that a big failure years ago because of the massive input lag?

The negative profit homework solver has really been worth all those data centers they can't afford to power on and consumer price hiking.

>Still has two usb-2 plugs for some reason
I fucking wish. They put one or two 3.0s on it and call it a day, sometimes with an extra usb-c port I need to stick an adapter into to actually use. Would much rather have 2x3.0 + 2x2.0.

No one's saying it's a bad thing; it sucks that consumer electronics take a hit, but in exchange we will literally cure cancer and every other disease, cross the threshold into the Singularity, and open up manned deep space exploration, just to name a few things.

I believe most of us, especially here on /g/, realize that it's worth it.

NTA but I've been using it since 2023 and I'm never going back to anything else. It fits my paranoia and my autism perfectly

Anyone else starting to think AI is just a trojan horse for bugs, pods, recessionary layoffs and CBDCs?
>>
>>107565068
I literally thought that from day 1. AI is the final puzzle piece for completing the elites' technocratic control grid that will enslave humanity for the next 1000 years

What happened to all of the ram
>>
>>107565068
Oh yeah, it is a fantastic if you want to get rid of the humanity of the world. It's a very powerful tool, so of course people with a need for greed and power are going to use it irresponsibly and in evil ways.

Hilariously, that kills Windows, most of mainstream Linux distros, 75% of current-day gaming and any intense editing work.
We are kind of going back to ye olde times when computing was fragmented. This time tho instead of different systems and architectures, the breaking point is price and what hardware person can put into their machines.

No they don't. I work for a hybrid wft company that issues project managers, laptops and everyone else a desktop tower setup. Oath only top out at like 8 gigs of RAM. All of our work is done on accompanying websites through a in-house VPN, so unless your job involves 3D modeling software or you do a lot of content creation, no corporate it team what even consider upgrading the ram of any of those computers. How what they justify that when Windows technically runs fine on 8 GB? You're probably thinking of those " Day in the life of xzy" TikTokers that are issued hardware that is way more powerful than they need or deserve like a high-end MacBook or something like pic rel
