>>107555611>gook>nippick one
>>107555845nips reporting on gooks
>>107555578T_Ti loved those samsung ones, they were so reliable
>managed to buy a 2.5" 2TB sandisk ultra SSD for €110 a few months ago to fill the 2.5" bay in my 1L mini PC home serverFailed to get a RAM upgrade in time but at least I got lucky with the storage.
Nvme in a usb enclosure is probably better, can use it a normal nvme slot afterwards
>>107555578they havent made 4tb MLC drives for a while now so theyve been dead to me years ago
>>107555578I have no need or desire to upgrade
>>107555578sata to m.2 when?

The usecase for sata SSD is pretty small desu. The samsung drive has always been a shit value for it's usecase and you could often find cheaper sata SSD that will satisfy the workload.Sk hynix dropping out sata ssd game was a bigger loss than the overpriced samshit drives
>>107559343Nigga, all old laptops/pcs use them.
>>107559449I've had a 2.5" chassis for the smaller form factor ssd for a while now, like 10 years...the 2.5" form factor is a waste of space. If you need it just get an adapter for mSATA to 2.5"
>>107559449All my old laptops have nvme and even then the cheaper alternatives are great and will serve those old machines well. Why the fuck would I buy from Samsung for that usecase?
>>107559476newfag and a child
>>107555628>oldLiterally the most popular SSD
>>107557590>trusting USB protocols to do shit like TRIMnever ever>>107559343SATA SSDs were better quality than NVME drives
>>107559506Did you get embarrassed?I see no point using a top tier nvme SSD on a archaic piece of shit.
>>107559541key word is were
>>107559608*2.5
Surely someone will make an NVMe to SATA adapter?
>>107555578I thought Samsung had already phased out Samsung-branded SATA SSDs years ago. At least in my country I haven't seen brand new Samsung SATA SSDs for sale in years either in physical stores or the main online stores and marketplaces.A fucking shame either way, they are very reliable and durable.
I already bought one from Kingston.
>>107555578What about the shelf life of these SSDs, any brand. Can I buy one for my old computer and install it in 5-7 years?
>>107555578nmp
>>107560796Shame, i don't have a free slot for it (4090xboxhuge)
>>107555578People still use 2.5" SATA SSDs?
>>107560731probably. it's just an ssd bro, keep it clean and you'll be ok.
>>107560731You mean leave it in the box and then use it for the first time in 5-7 years? That should be fine. If you mean put data on it and store it for an extended period of time, bit rot can be a problem.
>>107560897Yes. This serves my needs just fine. Now, do you need instructions on how to leave my lawn?
>>107560940>leave it in the boxYes.My actual one is at 93% after 28602 hours according to CrystalDiskInfo.
Mine's finally being retired this month after a good 13 years. It's done well to make it this far.
>GPUS get expensive as fuck due to crypto>Ram supply fucked due to AI shit>ThisThey really, really want me to own nothing but a smartphone don't they?
>>107561051>after a good 13 yearsDelete this, Samsung will ask you more money.
>>107560796How reliable are these things anyway?
>>107562141First of all your old motherboard needs to support bifurcation.
>>107559343SATA SSDs run at reasonable speeds. NVME SSDs run so fast they fail left and right and require a heatsink
>>107562426User error
SATA3 is slower than USB3, and USB3 came out back in 2008. If anything it's commendable Samsung bothered wasting their chips on bottlenecked obsolete interfaces, and the fact that unlike Micron, they didn't do a full pullout from the consumer market.Just get an NVMe to SATA3 adapter if you need to resurrect ancient hardware, all those SATA3 SSD's were mostly wasted space inside anyways. Shit doesn't matter.
>>107562723>NVMe to SATA3 adapterno such thing
