This thing weighs almost a whole kilo, you can't even call it a handheld. Why would anyone buy it over a gaming laptop that costs the same amount?
>>
>>107559435
Because it's designed for using, gaming laptops are designed for taking your money
>>
>>107559435
>Why would anyone buy it
To put your 'ick on it
>>
Same reason that brings someone to buy a gaming laptop, being retarded.
>>
>>107559455
I used to think 'ick was funny until I learned about the proxy site and what else they're spamming.

steam deck is a better value
>>

>Still seething at gaming laptops
Sour grapes much?
Anons that bought during the 3000 series made out like bandits especially with the sales after the device got a bit older. Build quality on non shit models mog most consumer laptops.
Oh they also out perform your handhelds
>>
>>107559435
Because I'm not a baby man and can hold it up.
>>

The problem with gaming laptops is that they're just glorified desktops with portable UPSs. You can't even game for all of your break time at work without the battery running out or lugging around a giant power brick.

Trains, planes, hotels. For a laptop you need more space and a controller. It's not worth for a short commute though.
I don't get people who use it at home. If you have a gaming PC just stream it to whatever, even modded switch will work.
>>
>>107559661
have realistic expectations if you think that shit is heavy you need to hit a fucking gym especially with the light weight offerings. What are you going to play at work in public where you don't think you're going to be laughed at?
Also you use a AMD igpu to do light gaming and basic task on battery not the fucking dgpu

>Can't hold 1kg
Either post tits or go to a gym and start eating
>>
>>107559435
>Why would anyone buy it over a gaming laptop that costs the same amount?
>The same amount
Not compared to a Steam Deck
And flawed as these devices are, a 1kg brick that plays games for up to two hours still beats out the 5kg slab that plays games for a whole 20 minutes. Gaming laptops are a relic now.

Besides my tablet I use for reading around the house I don't see much benefit for any other modern portable computing device for any other task over a smartphone. Anything else I'd want to use it for is better or more convenient on my desktop or on my phone. Most of the people I know with one of these things ends up just using it docked 90% of the time and usually they bought it because their wife/gf wouldn't let them spend $5000 on some gaming desktop because of their kids or some other crap.

I'm just saying I've seen the steam machine demo up front and valve will easily sell millions of those to these unfortunate souls. They did the right thing making sure it'd fit in those gigantic tv stand dresser things
>>
>>107559735
Everybody can hold 1kg. But after some time you'll have fatigue. Plus it's not fun to carry additional weight all day. Laptops, mantoys, cameras, waterbottles, it's all add up to pain in the back.
>>
>>107559839
I was about to reply with something like "they don't make innovative shit like this anymore, tech is all about following the leader" but then I searched the filename it's a fucking 2025 computer what the fuck

Do you have aids?
>>

gpd make those things all the time they just charge a small fortune for them
Then again the entire handheld market's moved towards $1000+ pricing too

The muscles you use when working out are not the same muscles you use to suspend a handheld in place for 30-60 minutes at a time.

You only have one set of skeletal muscle, bucko

Handheld and mobile CPU's have identical CPU performance as desktop counterparts, as long as the core count is the same.
Of course, these CPU's peak performance are limited by wattage. So the peak y cruncher results should be around 1/4th of a CPU with 4x the wattage. But gaming is mostly the same because you will very rarely hit max CPU utilization.
A game like cyberpunk would probably hit the max CPU utilization with a steamdeck + m.2 egpu (with some GTX 1060 teir GPU), but a z1/z2 extreme, even limited to 35 watts, should handle cyberpunk at 100fps+ if you had an egpu.
>>
>>107559965
It's not fun carrying 10kg backpack everywhere you go
>>
>>107560054
>Handheld and mobile CPU's have identical CPU performance as desktop counterparts,
No they don't, they have entirely different power limits for sustaining peak boost clocks, and higher clocks in nT workloads. Not to mention how heavily mobile parts have to balance delivering power to CPU cores and GPU cores which cuts CPU performance way down in practice.
And AMD's APUs only have half the L3 of their desktop CPU counterparts so perf/clock is lower flat out.

I think people aren't humbled enough by how powerful mobile CPU's are, for gaming.
Just look at the 12100f or AMD 5500, 4 core cpus (which I think are similar to the steam deck?).
Even if the 12100f or whatever AMD CPU is able to access 2-3x more wattage, the mobile CPU's should have a bit of an edge because the mobile CPU's should have won the silicon lottery in terms of binning, so maybe a 10% boost in perf or so.
The last thing you need to worry about is the CPU on the handhelds, they are vastly overkill and it's pretty common to let games be 100% GPU utilized for whatever reason (I like to limit the FPS to the 0.1% lows to prevent stutter when I am playing a AAA slop game I pirated).

There's a decently-sized trackpad, it's just a single one instead of two and you have to hold down to right click which is shitty
>>
>>107560182
>AMD 5500
The Ryzen 5 5500 is a 6c/12t Zen3 processor with a 65w TDP and can hit 4.2ghz 1T.
The VanGogh APU in the Deck is 4c/8T Zen2 limited to 20w and it can only hit 3.5ghz 1T when the GPU isn't being used at all.

Stop talking out of your ass. You're just dead wrong about every single thing you try to bring up.

i prefer my steam deck even though its weaker simply because it doesn't have the stupid fucking rgb lights.
but its useful if you use it to play games on your TV and then end up going to a hotel or something while travelling. i just put a bunch of media on there and i can just toss it up onto the hotel tv. i travel for a couple weeks at a time several times a year so its been surprisingly useful.
its what i wished my smartphone could be if android didn't fucking lock down everything fun and manufacturers didn't keep ignoring dp-alt mode out.
>>
>>107561842
unfortunately playing games with a controller is cancer.
