/p/haggot here. Is the overpriced memory here to stay? My laptop is due for an upgrade should I do it now or wait till the prices go down?

They're not going down until after the AI bubble pops which will probably be another year at least. And then it will take some time. If it's already unpleasant to use you're gonna have to bite the bullet.

There's a theory it's an intentional price hike to price consumers out of personal computing and force everyone to subscription and cloud services.
or >>107560772 is correct and it lasts until 2027 up to >>107560765 2030 as a contingency.
As a society, the only way it comes back down is if people stop using those services and refuse to buy more or participate

It's here to stay. It may even get a lot worse.

RAM is still cheaper in 2025 than it was from 1975-1999

its here to stay, RAMlets will bite the bullet until at least, the next decade.

8GB hasn't been above ramlet status for at least a decade. 16GB is a comfortable minimum, and 32GB is for when you want a little extra. 64GB is tryhard, but not to the point of excess. 128GB is for if you run a server or do gens or whatnot.

>RAM cost more it's early iterations
And the first computer cost $486,804.22
The first cellphone cost $3995 in 1973
What's your point?

>tfw made it all the way to 2026 in my twinkpad with only a faulty 4GB stick, having located the faulty addresses and blacklisted them in with the "badmem" parameter in GRUB. A while ago I added a 2GB stick I scavenged from another stinkpad though.
What prize do I get?

if youre not an insane multi tasker you can easily get away with 8gb, it depends on the OS too. i remember getting away with (shit you not) 2gb on win10 with a shit laptop from the mid 10s my mom gave me

Look at this retard that thinks things will ever get better

I wish I had upgraded my laptop to 64gb when I had the chance.

It depends on what you're doing. Working with lots of data can get you into wanting plenty of memory easily.
