It's been over two years since Bram's death. ICCF Holland is bound to close operations by the end of this year.

What will be the future of Vim? Will Christian Brabandt manage to keep it afloat or will it be eventually overtaken by Neovim?

Emacs doesn't have that problem.

probably, or other experimental modal editors like kak and its spinoff helix

I find myself switching between vim and helix constantly. Wish I could just stick to one.

Imagine using an editor that doesn't donate to ugandan children. Highly Lame.

Programmer text editors that are also not an interactive scripting language runtime don't matter in 2026.

Authors of all programs (text editors, terminals, file managers, image viewers, video players etc.) with functional customization ship or intend to implement a Lua runtime or similar.

WezTerm is a terminal, but also a Lua runtime GUI.

If tmux was made today, it would use Lua, not a crazy config format that is also a scripting language through "hooks" and shell evaluation.

If you make a new GUI/TUI program, don't waste your time and assume it will be a Lua runtime from the beginning.

This is in response of suggesting Helix or similar, that are not scripting language runtimes.

VScode, Emacs, Vim all are.

Helix is very far from being "vim". Also, Scheme is a nice language.

Indeed it does.
