The weird maybe obvious thing about 12vhpwr I noticed yesterday is that my cables pulled 0.3A per pin less than usual when my input voltage was 12.25v instead of the usual 12.05v. Maybe PSU makers should just ignore atx spec and ship PSUs that run at 12.6v under load so that the amps per cables gets reduced by 1A per cable under load

My gayming PC is the cheapest out of the two.
My server rig on the other hand is fucking expensive.
Think SuperMicro motherboard with TWO Xenon CPUs and 1024GB ECC RAM. Also had to buy other networking gear since I don't use a regular RJ45 for internet cables in my house. And things like an industry grade UPS and server racks, etc. I did not include my 100TB SSDs and 1PB HDDs in the cost but it's probably 20-30k.
I use it for my personal storage. I use like less than 10% of my storage and the rest I rent out and make some money back. I also host multiple game servers for family and friends.
I have autism.

Why do the power cables need to be cables to begin with? When 12vhpwr was first invented, why didn't they just make it a single large cable, seeing as they were starting out with a blank slate? Is it an electrical efficiency thing?

Just build on AM4 or 12th gen Intel with ddr4 and you'll be fine. Ddr4 is actually not that bad, and really was only a "don't do it" thing because ddr5 was so cheap. When you're talking about $350 32 gb kits of 5200 MT/s CL46 ddr5 vs $160-180 for 32 GB of 3600 CL18 ddr4, it's a no brainer.

those are usually better anyway provided you can deal with the lane splitting. low/mid end ATX mobos usually have better and faster bios updates because they're prioritized over high end complex boards or niche ones like ITX or mATX. this was literally the reason given by an msi engineer why the godlike x870e board still has pcie lane problems and the cheaper tomahawks got it fixed half a year earlier

wat? the *limit* for most fan headers is usually stated in amps, so a 12v fan pulling 1 amp is around 12 watts and a 12v fan pulling 2 amp is about 24 watts because watts=amps*volts

e.g., my mobo rates each of 4 fan headers for 1 amp at 12v maximum, one of my 3000 RPM fans at full tilt draws 0.7a @ 12v so about 8.4 watts

pic rel are the specs for the P12 Arctic fan (https://www.arctic.de/P12/ACFAN00118A), 0.16A @ 12V which is like 1.92 Watts. Just because the PWM connector on your board can provide 1 amp doesn't mean the fan is going to use 1 amp. You can plug multiple fans in there if you like. Fans also don't run at full speed all the time. You don't have fans those are turbines. They also have the P12 Pro (which also runs at 3000rpm max) (https://www.arctic.de/P12-Pro/ACFAN00305A) it pulls like 0.33A @ 12V which is like 3,96 Watts at max speed.

>>107565954
HAHAHAHAH 35 seconds. You literally just proved my point, nerd. Your 35-second boot time isn't a flex. It's the time it takes with features like Memory Context Restore (MCR) or Fast Boot enabled, meaning you skipped the whole useless POST code show. If you clear CMOS or if your memory becomes unstable (which MCR can cause), the full AGESA training comes back. Your 55 code will loop for a minute or more, turning your "high-end" display into a frantic, slow motion progress bar. It has zero diagnostic value. When something does go wrong, the code settles on 55 (Memory Error). The cheap DRAM LED gives you that exact information instantly. You paid extra for a digital clock that only tells you something's wrong after a long wait. It's useless bloat. A cheap beeper or LED does the job faster and better. This thing serves no purpose anymore.

You check the specs for each available chipset and the average price of them, then pick the chipset you want to get.
Then you manually go through motherboards available on chosen chipset looking at their configurations and buy when you find one that has everything you want, sometimes you get a better deal sometimes you have to settle.

Not worth paying the AIB premium for the better models like ASUS TUF ($1200).
If you can't justify the cost (understandably), get the 5070 Ti Prime for almost $750.

Upgraded from a 3700x CPU and 3080 I had for like 5 years. For 1440p 144FPS on non movie games, do I have any need to do anything to this in the near future until RAM prices stabilize in 2027+?. At this point I'd have to go to an AM5 to get any noticeable improvements right? That would require ~$800 on just like a 9800x3D + 32GB DDR5 at current prices alone.

I feel like I should just pocket the money and then throw it into a OLED monitor upgrade and then keep any funds in case something like my PSU, cooler, or one of the case fans goes bad or something.

I have a stupid question but I don't want to start a thread over it.

Is there a place I can check the dimensions in real-time, or something close to that, with custom pieces of hardware? My gf has been nagging me about getting a new case so I can put this capture card back in my new PC build because she plays her switch on discord or some shit, idk. But I need to see the measurements between this case I'm looking at, how high the PSU shroud goes, how low the GPU goes, clearance for upper GPU slot for the capture card, etc. The GPU I have is so big and the clearance between the fans and PSU shroud is so small that the second GPU port is completely blocked when I have it hooked into the first slot. I tried partpicker but they don't have capture cards as an option. I think I have a case picked out that will do the job but I want to be certain, but everyone tends to use the upper GPU slot so it's hard to tell. I'm trying to get away with just a case change and not a full on motherboard swap.

But these devs eventually learn how to fix major performance issues because it's important to get things right for their next set of releases.

You shouldn't get a waterblock for the RTX 50 FE cards, the proprietary board design isn't very mod-friendly.
The cost of the watercooling system won't justify the daily performance gains compared to just OCing the FE as-is.

Ram training is only on DDR5 and for the very first time you boot. After that it reduces in boot time (albeit still around 20-30 seconds for most people)
>>
>>107567008
TBW is the most important factor for an nvme. The more you write data on it the less life it has. If you're not a content creator or not rendering videos every single day / moving very big files you have nothing to worry about. I have a sk hynix 512 gb, 91% on crystal disk info after 7-8 years. It will last another 8 years before needing to change
>>
>>107567160
so running an OS on them, running programs like browsers and such will kill it earlier?
>>
>>107567169
No running an os and programs doesn't write as much as data as rendering huge files every day or downloading 100-200 gbs of data every week. You're safe but if you wanna feel better you can use crystal disk info to see detailed reports of your disk. It all comes down to how much data you write, the old nvmes don't have too much tbw but for daily use they last quite a long time
>>
>>107567169
Ah yeah you can look up your nvmes tbw by searching its model on Google. But most old nvmes do not have a specific tbw or it is very hard to find the specs

>give it something nicer. Whether its single tower, dual tower or AIO
I could grab an AIO cooler and swap out the two exhaust fans I have at the top and mount it there. I'd have two things to check though:

1) Does my small mATX have enough extra fan headers to support the pump/fans. Is there any converter/hub thing I could use otherwise?
2) Can I swap out the Wraith Cooler and the bracket for it (I forgot if it uses an extra bracket or if the motherboard default one was fine) without having to unscrew the entire motherboard out of the case to affix the bracket
3) What's the price for a decent AIO with pre-installed fans these days?

I've never used any form of water cooling before, I only know general how to on where and where not to have the pump in respect to the actual CPU.
>>
>>107569102
Id guess hosing the pc with water is safer than using a blower that can cause static electricity from friction
youd just need to be careful the water doesnt pool in some place that moving air cant get to easily when drying it.

removing all the components and washing them separately would be safest. PSUS might have some places water is annoying to remove, but gpus and mobos when you dissassemble the fans from them first it'd be no problem
you could even put them in a 120c oven to dry as long as you remove pastes n shit
>>
>>107569123

>>107569153
Ideally you'd want to disassemble it, wash the case the lightly wipe/scrub the remaining parts before blowing out any remaining dust in the crevices.
I hate to say it, but I really think ESD is mostly a meme with how well most parts ground these days.

Get a DELL panel, they have a burn in warranty of 3 years.

If it were an inch and a half wider it would be alright but it's way too tight. Par for the course I guess considering the case came out in like 2018 I think, I was just blinded by the fact that it had everything I wanted at the time. Might be able to repurpose this case with my older parts though which is decent. Perhaps a home server in the future.

I tried that, I borrowed an external one from a buddy who doesn't use it anymore but the quality is totally night and day. The internal one I had prior is a smooth 60fps 1080p on everything I throw at it, audio is fine, etc. But the external one has been nothing but one issue after another. Granted he had an older model so the newer external ones are probably better quality, but I'd rather put that cash towards upgrades I actually genuinely want considering that once I do upgrade the case my old internal capture card should be back in working order.

I think I'm going to get a bigger motherboard and a Fractal Design Pop XL. Need them 5.25 bays.
