Nuclear power is still boiling water to generate electricity from a turbine. 70% energy waste and it hasn't improved in a very long time. If we figure out fusion, we'll still use it to boil water to drive a turbine. Not everything "improves" at the same rate.

>>
>>107569942
You're correct about not everything "improves" at the same rate. It's just with AI/AGI there's a measurable output that can be improved upon whether it be cheaper, faster, more accurate, etc... It will just take time.

The AI companies are open sourcing the software for their models because they think that scaling up hardware compute is going to be key to actually creating AGI. This belief is basically founded on nothing other than a hunch by some of the scientists at open AI. The fact that continuing to scale their models bigger isn't making them better has already proved their idea mostly false. That said, reinforcement learning might actually lead to AGI down the road but it's not going to happen overnight. There is still a lot of work to be done.

My guess is the current AI bubble will pop, people will say, lol AI is a useless chatbot that just has tons of errors, then we will forget about it for 10 years and sometime around 2040 we will suddenly have AGI.
>>
>>107570029
I wouldn't be surprised if this came true.
>>
>>107569978
>It will just take time.
Data, you mean. Which we do not have as theyve slurped the entire internet already and now just scrape whatever new thing pops up with little improvement.
Theyre inherently capped to the quality and size of their data since theyre statistical models with no thinking.

Also what the fuck is a quokka? Apparently it is a real animal but it's kinda obscure.

>The quokka's range is a small area of southwestern Australia. They inhabit some smaller islands off the coast of Western Australia, particularly Rottnest Island just off Perth and Bald Island near Albany. Isolated, scattered populations also exist in forest and coastal heath between Perth and Albany. A small colony inhabits a protected area of Two Peoples Bay Nature Reserve, where they co-exist with the critically endangered Gilbert's potoroo.[6]
>>
>>107566679
Most of these issues can be solved with the tech we have today, just needs more scaffolding and more compute.
>user requests complex detailed image
>make first attempt to generate image
>analyse resulting image, find issues
>for each issue, get the bounding box and regenerate that portion of the image
>repeat until analysis looks good
Optionally, for images like this that consist of many parts to be arranged in a rigid manner, you could generate each part individually (complete with retry loop) and then get it to stitch them together.

>we just need $6 trillion, 50% of the world's RAM, and 50% of the world's electricity bro, don't be a luddite
>>
>>107570344
The idea of telling a computer to create an animal alphabet poster image with one natural language request was complete science fiction just a few years ago. We're now at the point where some models (grok apparently) can do it one-shot and many others could do it if you wrapped them in a somewhat expensive loop/graph.

So unironically yes, it's just a hardware and engineering issue at this point. Those problems can be solved with enough money. I'm not saying it's not a bubble and won't burst, but these investors haven't completely lost touch with reality.
