its fine as long as you don't have the PC on carpet but also the difference is pretty clear between having a platform and not. Dust and general debris has an easier time traveling around hardwood so its a bit of a give and take, but given the option I would recommend a platform. Other than verticality spacing reasons there's no reason not to have one.

If you don't want to shell out the money to buy one you can build one if you have a power drill and a hand saw. Look around at construction sites in your area and ask if you can have some trash wood.
>plywood
>1x4 or 2x4
>cut plywood to size for the space you use
>cut 1x4 or 2x4 to size to fit the plywood short-ways
>measure distance from top of plywood to bottom of feet
>get screws that are long enough to attach the wood but short enough to not go all the way through
>maybe duct tape on the plywood to help prevent slipping

RT performance is also better on Nvidia.Amd's fsr 4 is nice for newer games but older games that only support fsr 3 or lower will look noticeably worse. I had second thoughts with my 9070 xt and decided to try out the MSRP 5070ti by Pny and then return the card I didn't want. It's noticeably more performant at raytracing when everything is maxed, but holy fuck is it loud as shit compared to the 9070xt hellhound I bought first despite drawing around 50 less watts. It's idling at like 60 whereas the 9070xt was idling at 40 and was 60 under full load with memory temps ramping at 74. This could be a case of getting an exceptionally poor draw of the silicon lottery and paste application on the Nvidia card and a super lucky draw with the AMD card, or maybe the cooling solution is just dogshit on the lowest priced 5070tis. Regardless, I feel a lot better about my first purchase, and I'm gonna return the 5070ti. The prospect of ultimately paying 150 more was already hard to swallow, but I don't think I could stomach paying 200+ more for a 5070ti model that doesn't suck ass and possibly a new case to fit more fans

Also depends on your PSU. Newer ATX 3.1 are actually going backwards with 12ms load compared to 17ms...

Just get an APC 1500va and hook up only your PC and 1 monitor to the battery side and everything else to the surge.
If you need to split but not be on the APC, make sure to buy ISOBARR for quality surge without the battery backup.

Not sure how I feel about this bigass monitor. Did a new PC build and the 57 samsung was fairly cheap so I figured i'd give it a shot.

LG has a one year warranty that covers all defects/failures/labor the a total of five years on the panel. In lawyer speak that means you have a limited one year warranty and will pay out the ass afterwards for repair. Best buy will just give your money back towards another comparable TV of replace if extensively damaged (not due to abuse or accident). I read the entire contract.

Hey everyone, I am struggling with some frame drops and stutters across all games and was wondering if anyone had any ideas on potential fixes.

Specs are:

9800X3D CPU

5090 GPU

64 GB RAM CL32 6600 MHz

Storage is 990 Pro NVMe

I am not super knowledgeable about computers so please be kind :) I run on 4k usually get about 150 FPS on Average but 1% lows drop to in 30s or 15

bios update
remove plastic from cpu cooler
enable gsync for the monitor + in nvidia app
put monitor to its max fps in windows
ensure its not game specific, some unreal titles may have travelsar stutter or shader complication when a new effect happens on screen for the first time

Is the Noctua NH-D15 G2 still worth getting if you have to downsize the front fan to 120mm?
>Case max cooler height: 170 mm
>NH-D15 G2 height: 168 mm
>RAM Height: 42 mm
>Max ram height for NH-D15 G2: 32 mm (supports 52mm with a 120mm fan)
I only have 2mm of clearance between the steel case and heatsink/fans which might also be a problem. Should I give up and try something else?

Is a mini PC enough for regular browsing, youtube, spotify, itunes, maybe watching streams? No gaming at all.
Parents are complaining about a slow PC. It's an i3, 8GB RAM, bought in 2019. It still has an HDD. I could upgrade to an SSD, but for only 50-100 I can just get a new mini PC. Thoughts?
I only know Beelink and I only use one as a streaming box for my TV.

I'd upgrade the PC depending on price of a ram bump. Hell even a i7 cpu can't be that much.

How do I know when I should replace a PSU and what are the signs that one is about to crap out on me are not? I haven't gotten any coil wine, random shutoffs, etc and it's hooked up to a surge protector. I've upgraded CPU coolers, GPU, put in new new fans, etc on my build that I've had for 5.5+ years now. I still have well above the wattage I need and it's not a shit/poor brand either.

The only reason I haven't done it already is because the wiring would take me a handful of hours to do and probably have me autistic with wiring again.

Hello /pcbg/,
I have an old 850W EVGA Supernova G3 purchased around its release date in 2017 (heavy usage, mostly gaming, since then). I was thinking of upgrading my graphics card to a 9070XT, but I know that PSUs degrade over time and that newer cards have bad transient spikes. Also iirc EVGA is dead now. Should I replace the old PSU for the 9070XT as well?

>>107575738
You won't know besides random new issues popping up, which includes things shutting off / restarting mysteriously and hanging, and then you have to diagnose the issue to know for sure it is the PSU at fault. Mine exploded on startup after 10 years without warning, no damage to PC so it did it's job, probably some capacitor that blew.

Consider always buying a reputable brand and then simply changing it by the 8-10 year mark. No need to wait until something goes wrong, and PSUs are cheap enough that it is not an unreasonable maintenance cost over that kind of timespan. If you have enough disposable income to upgrade parts every 8-10 years then get a new PSU whenever that happens.

can you just toss some old ssd from somewhere in there? from your description they probably don't even need 256GB, a 128GB should be cheap or free if you can scrounge it and will make it "feel" faster, then toss some light Linux flava on it like Zorin OS and it will feel like a speed demon compared to Windows on 8GB.

Beelink is no better or worse than most others for quality but it's all chinkshit so don't expect it to last as long as that old i3.

anon does not mention budget. Asus took over the Intel NUC brand name, pay more, get higher quality

Do motherboard NVME shared heatsinks (MSI) really do a better job than say a NVME with a heatsink already installed?
>>
>>107576499
Depends.
You will never need a heatsink for PCIe gen 4 NVMe. So even if you have a fucking watercooled NVME for some reason it will still perform the same as the heat spreader on the motherboard.
For Gen 5 then the bigger the heatsink the better. Bigger ones will always perform better than the ones your motherboard comes with. But you have to check if they applied the heatsink properly. You have to check if you have the clearance for it. This usually just gives you a 10% better temperature, usually not worth it. Especially when you're not reading and writing to the disk 24/7.
NVMe heatsinks is just a trap for consumers, 99% of them don't need it. The 1% that do need it knows why they need it.
The fact that you're asking tells me you don't need one and can settle for the ones your motherboard comes with.
>>
>>107576560
Well, the dumb ass I was, I panic bought a week ago and I got the heatsink versions. Two of em. Now they're $80 more of both versions respectively and I just realized that with my motherboard.

I don't have a window so aesthetics be damned, but fuck me this teaches me a lot. Apparently removing Samsung heatsinks void warranty.

This is what I get for being out of the loop for years and not reading enough.
>>
>>107576298
try 2-4 years
>>
>>107576587
If it has a heatsink then I assume it's a Gen5? Does your motherboard even support Gen 5 NVMe?
You can just leave it on, but you do have to look out for the clearances. Some NVMe slots are right behind the GPU. And if you put it in the different slot then you might get worse speed than what you paid for.
>>
>>107576499
>>107576587
The motherboard's heatsinks are usually worse than the SSD's preinstalled heatsinks.
>>
>>107576499
I would generally err on the side of included sinks than motherboard ones. Mobo manufacturers will design these things primarily for aesthetics rather than performance, and MSI ones for sure are big flat finless blocks of the former type.

My 990 Pro idles at 50 on the top slot with the mobo sink, it obviously needs at least something to not overheat under load. Your mileage may vary depending on case fan position and vertical GPU or not.
>>
>>107576613
Gen 4-- Samsung 990 Pro
>>107576624
Thank fuck. Also when I look at the heatsinks they look more like heat traps -- less airflow means less cooling IMO
Its an X870E
>>
>>107576643
>gen4
Return it and get a cheaper one. I have a 990 Pro also. The highest temperature it got was 60C. And that's me writing big files on it for almost 2 hours (editing and copying big videos).
If you are honestly going to just use this for gaming or boot drive then at least get your money back.
>>
>>107576663
Gaming and video scratch.

At this point I just should see if one fits, I just don't want it to bend. If it fits and I don't need the motherboard heatsink then I will be happy.

I don't live close to undesirables, that's why this shit gets dropped off at the door. Managed to snag an extra x870e motherboard from an online order when it was delivered to the wrong house and the retailer got me a replacement same day. Then when I got home from picking that up the guy who had the package delivered to him was waiting outside my house with it.
