150 dollah, the chink of aliexpress customer service warned me linux dosnt work with it wtf, is that true or they want to spy on an old retiree??
cpu is an old ass celeron but enough for videos and common old people tasks with a lightweight os

If it runs windows it would def run linux, windows would run slow as fuck on that tho, so I would install Linux mint on it.
>>
they tell you that because like most of these cheap electronics, its designed to steal your data
if you give this to your mom theres a 100% chance of her login credentials for basically anything being stolen immediately upon use

i wouldnt even use this with linux
>>

>i wouldnt even use this with linux
The cost of the components required to have spyware persist after installing a different operating system are probably more than the rest of that shitbook combined.
>>
>>107576231
its really not expensive at all to do that
why on earth would you take the chance
its like re-using a needle from a circle of junkies that you think is probably alright because you ran some isopropyl through it a few times
just get any competent laptop
>>
When they say linux doesn't work on it they mean they don't want you calling or emailing their tech support on why the Wifi driver wasn't detected or some other BS. I've bought and owned these devices and you just need to boot into windows, grab the network adapter model numbers/names, and get the linux drivers for them before hand.

You really think Chinese computers have rootkit backdoored by random aliexpress sellers? It makes sense for them to give you a botnetted version of Windows pre activated but beyond that seems far fetched.

lol

Pretty sure it's the N6000 shit in there than most those chinkpads have. That's enough to watch YT at 1080p or whatever moms watch that shit at.

Bigger issue is OP's pic with a 1TB ssd, would not trust that shit as a scratch partition.
>>
nvm found the laptop OP ordered on aliexpress
>Intel Celeron N3450 or other similar CPU such as J3455
https://www.aliexpress.us/item/3256805398831195.html?

YEAH... it can do basic shit, would have been better just buying an old 3000 series intel laptop though

"Pre-activated" Windows installation with malware is one thing. The other is that even cables from taobao already had malware in them. Cost of a bad usb header isn't as high as you'd may think.

>>107574728
Sometimes they really do have some non-standard drivers. I'd at least backup these.
>>
>>107574649
Could have bought some refurbed HP elitebook from 2023 for 350$ that is infinitely better
>>
>>107576728
yes of course is better i actually tried to do that but newegg refused to ship to my shithole, 350 is also 2.25 times more than the price of OP shitbook
>>
>>107574728
There are certain fuckass laptop power management chips that don't work well in Linux, and you end up with it running slow or not lasting long on a charge.
>>
>>107576728
Nah those chink laptops are not even that bad I had super cheap one and it didn't have any fatal flaw that would make it pain to use.
Also bios on those is crazy, it's generic board made for all kind of laptops and number of setting and options is nothing you have ever seen, screens and screens of stuff to play with.

that's probably alright tho
>>
>>107574649
its to let you know there's no support for linux from the company so you will need to write the drivers for the weird hardware in the laptop on your own if your install that os.
>>
>>107576704
Really, taobao, the platform used for domestic sales and local consumption. You think they give malware cables to their own people with 0 repercussions from the literal communist police state. And how would a malware cable work? It would have to install malware without any UAC prompt?

I think you're just a glownigger.
>>
>>107574649
>installing l00nix for your boomer to be confused at while they browse facebook etc
why even bother, give her normie ass what she wants, not what you, a nerdy faggot, wants
