The funny part is, it's completely irrelevant to them. They couldn't care less if they get $100,000 or $1 with that banner, they get more than enough money from the people who fund them, and if they needed more money they'd only have to ask.

The reason why they beg for money every single day is to give the impression that they're independent and they only rely on donations. When people see that banner they're more likely to believe that Wikipedia isn't controlled by anyone, which is simply false.

I almost feel bad for the idiots who donate, giving your hard-earned money to people who literally don't need it is as good as burning it. But I feel even worse for the actually independent sites who do need donations and get less money because idiots who could be helping donated to Wikipedia instead and think that's enough.
