is he right?

Bug tracker or social 'media'?

No, they still have to maintain the code, if they don't want to then the user should fork or use an alternative, or come up with a compelling reason for the dev to support it. "Good ones exist" isn't a compelling reason
>>
Firefox forks are never a good idea. They will always be behind in security patches because some autistic guy in Estonia cannot keep up with all the changes.
>>

he is half right. the feature should be removed if all it does is connect to someone else's machine to send queries to their model.
the only way to keep it would be to make it so you can point it at any model you want. they probably can't do that, so removing it is the next best thing.

it's probably more work to leave it ripped out
all he has to do otherwise is just have the default config value be false

well to be completely honest much of the AI craze from the smaller players like libre or even firefox is just fear and survival
From the point of view of the normies:
>AI = hottest thing in tech
>Big pants player like Jewgle Chrome has plenty of AI capabilities
>Safari / Brave the same
If you don't have AI do you even exist or are just an hobbist unserious browser? That's survival, Firefox cannot afford to be percieved as a third class alternative that is not up to latest tech.
Crusty powerusers using vim since 1990 can be appeased with a big "Turn this shit OFF" button. They are not relevant 1% (vocal minority) of 1% (powerusers) of 1% (desktop market)

A CEO even the shittiest CEO in the world should aim to conquer the entire market. You don't do that with something like:"hello world: we perform like shit, don't have the latest cool tech nor plan to, but it's fine we can survive with handouts, also we don't steal your data and have a super good adblock from a third party"
>>
>>107585122
lol get the fuck out, of course the AI bullshit will be a data harvesting exercise. What a wanker.

>Furryfox
Why didn't they just give me a big button to disable all the AI slop? Why do I have to go into the fucking config and do magic there?
>>
>>107585122
So how long until the AI cancer hits Firefox ESR?
>>
>AI is what gets people riled up.
>Not the shitty politics the retard maintainers are trying to push
>>
>>107585122
I agree with his philosophy, but don't know if the dev had a reason to remove the feature other than "AI bad"
>>
>>107586512
I see modern LLMs being coy with the em dash too, whilst the surrounding structure remains the same. they aren't using the dash anymore: they're using colons or other forms of voice stop.

>every other commercial field that isn't /tech/
The 1% should be calling the shots because they're smarter than us and have degrees in their fields
>The /tech/ field
The 1% doesn't matter even though they're smarter than us and have degrees in their fields
>>

Show me the political code/features that are actually affecting users in firefox. Not just some gay culture war era headline

Yes, it's dumb.

>If you don't have AI do you even exist or are just an hobbist unserious browser? That's survival, Firefox cannot afford to be percieved as a third class alternative that is not up to latest tech.
why? firefox in 2025 is used almost exclusively by people who interests and needs aren't alligned with the average users.
firefox is FACTUALLY hobbyist-tier software now, they should catter to their actual users instead of trying to appeal to people who don't care and will never make the switch.
>Crusty powerusers using vim since 1990 can be appeased with a big "Turn this shit OFF" button. They are not relevant 1% (vocal minority) of 1% (powerusers) of 1% (desktop market)
aka probably 90% firefox users, 9% clueless debian/ubuntu/mint users, 1% normies who somehow use it but aren't part of muh sekrit klub
>A CEO even the shittiest CEO in the world should aim to conquer the entire market.
why does mozilla need a fucking CEO? why is there a for-profit in the first place?
firefox is a non-profit, 5-engineer project, they just need part-time accounting and legals, no useless execs who drain the company dry because they live in the silicon fucking valley and want tim apple-level salaries.

this is crazy to me, firefox is by any metric left in the dust, there is NOT A SINGLE GOOD REASON to struggle to keep the status quo and beging google for money, they should fire every non-engineers and let the rest cook, that's what firefox users want, that's what mozilla the non-profit need, fuck the for-profit.
people/companies would give money to firefox if it wasn't mismanaged like it currently is, see the ladybug hype, money is pouring from everywhere, EXACTLY because it's not like chrome and its clone, trying to mimic the leading adware is a lost battle, people/companies want something else, not tied to google or mozilla, taht would fit into their opsec/float management system (mozilla had firefox esr but they don't really care about it anymore)

The reason is Firefox only exists so google claim they don't have the monopoly Microsoft tried to get with IE in the 90s. It's just a way to subvert anti-trust laws.

Well that and a way to constantly humiliate us people still using it and ensure we never get mad enough to finally build a new browser engine that isn't an adware, spyware ridden piece of shit.

I wonder what will happen when mozilla is bankrupted (not if, when), alphabet absolutely needs to be split as soon as possible

I'm thinking of contributing to ladybug out of spite, I can write good C++, there should be something I can do so this

All AI shit can be extended with extensions.
There's a reason for their existence.
>>

>is he right?
No. Freedom of choice is not the same as freedom of the dev team to maintain the code as they see fit. Especially for such legally dubious services as AI.
>Oh, your browser stole my intellectual property? here's a gigantic lawsuit.
If he cares about AI shit so much he can fork and do whatever he likes.
