why don't you use it?
>>107586846I do
>>107586852Is there any reason you would stop or do anything violent?
why would I?
I don't like modal editing
i do use it
>>107587053>using emacs>preconfigedYou completely missed the point. Go back to vscode. Emacs isn’t for you
>>107586846I prefer regular vim and supporting ugandan kids
>>107586846i use emacs.>>107587117>You completely missed the pointironic.
I do, I love it.

because it keeps breaking while using clang-tidy
>>107586846Usecase for anything more?
Because it's for redditrannies, install vim.
>>107586846used vim for decades don't need some neo/gayeo version
>>107586846emacs

>>107588970Hope you get crippling arthritis from the inhuman key combos that thing requires. Lemme guess ur using vi bindings to edit?
>>107588990Since you "asked", I bind capslock to ctrl it feels good to me. I used to use evil (also used vim and doom extensively) but I decided to try the emacs way and I like it, might add evil again though.
>>107589002Fair enough man, use what works best for you innitTo my brain the Vim interface makes way more sense & is rewarding to learn (composability of operators gives you new powers) vs memorising/customisingHave tried Emacs enough to see why people like it but to me Vim makes more sensemy rc https://rentry.org/pz62b33v
>>107586846I use vim and barely use 99% of its features
>>107586846I'm too used to regular vim
>>107589118same, i use it when i need to do something like multiline formatting.
>>107586846I've used it for 10 years now. I think they're starting to ruin it chasing the zoomer vscode crowd who want it to be an IDE. I'll probably end up writing my own editor but I plan to try Vis soon.
>>107588916Why? It's literally inferior. Nvim's lua bullshit is gay, but vim9
>>107588985It's a yes or no question, sir.
>>107586846Ed is better. There hasn’t been any worthwhile editor since sam, so I don’t look for anything new. Just use ed or write your own if you dislike sam.
I'm working on my own text editor. It's called Jew.
>>107586846I like Helix more

>>107586846because I use something else (VSCode)

I use emacs
>>107586846Is nvim better than regular vim if I don't care about fancy plugins?
>>107586846The AI experience is dogshit. I use VS Code with the nvim backend extension.
>>107592371Switch esc and caps lock. This is pretty useful outside of modal text editing too.
>>107586846it was advertised as a text editor i opened it and started typing to edit textit did not edit textI got angry and uninstalled
>>107586846Vim wastes all good keybinds on text editing bullshit you never need for code editing, while things like "go to definition" or "rename this symbol" get awkward bullshit combinations that also never work right.
unlike vim where you just have to learn the basic key commands and a few .vimrc settings, neovim requires learning everything all at once to turn it into a full IDE, which means you should already know the basics of vim and then read a book that tells you how to use all the plugins so you can make intelligent choices on how you want it set up
It needs similar capabilities like what Cursor has. I will happily switch back to Neovim when it can suggest autocompletion and tab jumping while understanding whole projects.
>>107593926Just remap them.
>>107586846I do use nvim, and I write plugins for it when I wanna take breaks from writing big projects. I have two terminals even, my main being ghostty and then kitty exists solely as the launcher to nvim, I do a nvim command and it opens kitty config'd specifically for nvim, full screened with different font sizes. I mostly did this so I could change the icon for kitty into the nvim icon and actually have nvim on my task bar behave as if it were an executable rather than a second icon opening next to it. Also added it into my context menus so I can just right click -> open in nvim.I love nvim bros.
>nano>vi>(micro)emacs>acmeuse anything other than these and you are a faggot
>>107594464Ok, that's enough for me. I'm switching back to vsc
>>107594470sorry i forgot joe and sam
>>107594476vsc works very well, enjoy your experience fren just remember to actually write code
>>107593926What are you even talking about? There's some geriatric ass who can get farther with vim's built in completion than most zoomers can do with lsp and copilot.
>>107589108Once you know how to use vim, you know how to use vim plugins for other software. I'd be a school shooter if it wasn't for Vimium C. Everyone thinks anxiety and depression comes from the state of society. That shit comes from the graphical user interface.
