I recently got some old celeron laptopits a 3rd gen celeron 2890I want to put a OS that's useful in 2026 on it.i know its going to be linux bit i want it normie friendly to open up the list of buyerswhat should i put on itassuming i can get this e4Z1-512 workingit was a where house laptop and since then its shut down its laptop sectionso i'm wanting to add a 120GB ssd to itas i don't think its worth it to buy betteri hate seeing saveabe machines even very buget ones go to waste.what operating system is best for 3rd gen celeronsive only had 3 three gen laptops all i5'sand recently got another.but i found this celeron in the dump that only needs a new battery, a clean and new chargerand a new O.S.is it possible to save the old girl?it has 4GB DDR3L ram and that's quite fast for a celeronbut sadly the slot is only one and only supports 4GBwhat is the lowest cpu useage linix that is user frinedly with full gui support?windows is out of the question as it only supports windows 7,8.1 and windows 10 is too demandingso i need something that is slim on computer resources.from what i seen its 2x as fast as the atom of the same era x3800 is of the same era.and i see its good on battery as its cute tiny mother board looks neat.plus it has SD reader and dvd drivethe speed is about equal to a athlon x255>Pic unrealted
>>107589619Any Linux distro will work for that, just use some lightweight DE.
>>107589657>Anykys>lightweight DELmao
>>107589657>look for lightweight DE?okay. well i hope they aint too old then.where to start looking?I'm being serious btw.
>>107589619>>107589708How much Linux experience do you have?
>>107589708Lxqt or xfceXfce is nice and simple. Lacks the excessive flash of modern mainstream software. Xfce looks modern without being too flashy either so that may be a selling point for your case. For OS I would keep it simple and go with Ubuntu. Debian or fedora would be fine too
>>107589749I was thinking of recommending Lubuntu too, specially if you're not very Linux savvy and it's a decent out of the box experience for lower end hardware.
>>107589619Obarun with Openbox.
No.107589743i'm looking for new fag things something simple and just works.don;t want to code or anything, just web browse and watch dvds and use the sd card reader.that's the target audience i'm after.this is for selling if i'm being clear.>>107589749>>107589757>>107589775as long as its simple and easy to set upi'll look into these.
>>107589775He's literally asking for newfag things, Obarun is based on Arch, not the newfag friendliest and it's not like his main PC that throwing them into the deep side of the pool straight away would help.
>>107589958get WattOSdont listen to gays
>>107589619does it even support x64? cause otherwise you're gonna be stuck with seriously outdated distros and packages. If you're selling it, windows xp and market it as "le ebin RETRO gaming machine!!!!"
>>107590034>does it even support x64?OP literally said the modelhttps://www.intel.com/content/www/us/en/products/sku/82103/intel-celeron-processor-n2840-1m-cache-up-to-2-58-ghz/specifications.html>Instruction Set >64-bit>>107590018I wouldn't recommend meme distros as a first Linux. Start with something simple, Ubuntu with it's flavors or Fedora, etc. Even Arch based would be too rough for a literarily noob.
>>107589619>4GB DDR3L>celeron 2890You can basically run modern KDE plasma without much problems.
thanks anons. will keep lurking untill the thread ends then go research next week.keep it coming.i'll be here for another hour.
