Marx thought the state would eventually collapse and was an instrument of oppression used by classes. The state exist to protect capitalists today but you'd go through some stage where the workers would take control from capitalists and use it to oppress them until it was no longer necessary. Liberals think government exist to enforce natural laws or rights and if governments oppress anyone it's because of a tyrannical deformation of what governments should do.

End product is free for use by those with the need. Why you produce something is irrelevant. If it's some notion of pure charity or ego projection isn't really relevant to whoever is using the product. With FOSS you don't have control of who or how the end product is used in the way it's normally controlled under capitalism so that's the parallel.

Say a socialist state insisted all software be open source and abolish ability to monetarily profit off software. That would be how things would work essentially. I know he barely wrote about communism's end result but we have clues. He described it as a stateless classless society without a division of labor. But he does explain partially how to get there. We know he called for a shift of class consciousness to get people to realize the great battle of workers vs bosses, unite and for workers to seize control of the GOVERNMENT then use state force. My point is whenever flamboyant politically motivated college students day dream. They imagine the perfect luxury society which they don't have words for. They just loosely describe it with blissful emotions where everything is free, everyone lives in harmony without war and has universal education free government healthcare and not to mention "conquering the oppressive white patriarchical cis gender heteronormative system" Glossing over real world conflict and ignoring the natural world's clues on why society is a mess. Instead just blame it all on capitalism and say the alternative communism is a loose fairy magic enchanted land of pleasure. Marx was doing the same thing with communism with his end of history story or with that anti division of labor quote where he talks about someone post utopia hunting in the morning, fishing in the evening and rearing cattle in the afternoon. I believe the division of labor is the natural result of humans moving to agricultural societies from hunter gatherer and realizing some people are better at certain skills and dividing labor = better survival. But instead Marx thinks its exploitation and oppression. In example I am skilled at image processing with GEGL I don't have a fucking clue how to take care of farm animals and if I did I'd need to put 100s of hours of work to learn how to do it sufficently.

Most people who are into FOSS software are very left-leaning, they tend to be very pushy in their opinions and absolutely love to power-trip. RMS is insufferable communist kike that wants you to get the jab, wants everyone to wear the mask and made plenty of questionable statements regarding "voluntary pedophilia". He and his peers are now being replaced by even more obnoxious people, who want mandatory IUDs for 14year olds,claim that your skills don't matter if you refuse to suck tranny CoC(k), ban people from their infra when they develop something they dislike, wipe entire communities over minor slap fights etc. Most commonly, they don't even try discussing with you, because they think that they are ultimately always correct, their opponents are evil chuds and need to shut up. Thats one of the reasons I left FOSS behind, since I do not want to rely on any software thats maintained by my enemies, who might decide one day that evil chuds need to get their drives wiped by a package that they maintain, or in less extreme case, make us create some weird environmental variables expressing support to their shitty opinions (in fact the latter happened already with developers forcing you to set up environmental variables expressing support to Ukraine).

My other issue with FOSS is that technically, and unconsciously,it is against real ownership. The way that installing software works on linux makes it very challenging to manage your software without access to the internet and connecting to the external repositories that reside on someone else's computer, which is, controlled by the previously mentioned commiepedotroons. On windows, even modern one, you can freely share offline installers with people, without ever touching the internet, as windows installers either come with all the dependencies already, or they are dependent on something that also has local, offline installer, like net framework or visual c++. Due to the lack of any decent software support, many linux users often promote usage of cloud-based software (web version of microsoft office, fusion360 etc.), which yet again, takes control from you, the end user. While modern software in general has this tendency, on Windows you can at least pirate new software and take away its internet access, or even use older, local versions of those programs, that are inarguably better than linux alternatives, all of that is not doable (or at least not easily doable) on linux. Thats why I chose to go back to old windows versions, since they have great software compatibility that can be ran locally and offline, forever, and are not actively maintained by people who openly hate me. Technically you can have safe, local setup on modern windows, but I will use older versions as long as I can, since they are simply easier on the user.
