Hey guys, lately at my job I've been feeling a little depressed about the whole tech industry. I work for a game studio, and I've noticed that people are getting burned out really quickly. Initially I blamed management, but upon closer inspection I realized that management were even more burned out than the juniors. I asked my colleague in the Monday stand-up vc what he think, and he said "Everything takes forever now, opening tools, compiling, updating assets, reloading scripts, debugging, and that's just the development side of it.". It really made me think about how overly complex everything is getting, and how unhappy everyone is over the economy. I mean... $6 for a tiny McDonalds cheeseburger which tastes like plastic? we're practically forced to be greedy when negotiating compensation because everything is so expensive now. It feels like a feedback loop of negativity which is going to make our lives so much worse in 5-10 years. Like... whenever I right click on Windows 11 and I see that menu take 1-2 seconds to start up, I just think to myself... "what the fck". A we really spending 1-2 seconds on a button callback these days? like are these niggas for real or what? Billions of dollars in investment and we still have Indians writing the everyday tools as if we're only allowed 1 thread and caching doesn't exist. Not tryna be disrespectful to any of my Curry Colonels out there but god damn bro.
