Is there any reason to not just run
rm /tmp/*
when I'm low on memory? It works.
>>

Isn't /tmp/ not mapped to ram?
So making what you are doing pointless.
>>
>>107601953
if it isn't mapped to ram you're doing something wrong

/tmp should be tmpfs, which is mapped to ram.
Also when I run rm /tmp/* I can see the amount of memory being used go down. So in my case it is.

temp is the cache folder. its a good idea to delete it once in a while but deleting in constantly means it has to rebuild it constantly and that can make things sluggish.

You should try zswap, free memory.
Can also swap to GPU vram.
