Training the TE (at least when it was CLIP, specifically, again) tended to improve overall results on SD 1.5 / SDXL versus not doing it (which was also always possible there too) but it was never 100% necessary or the only purpose of your captions.

"okay" def not worth the 4k but 128gb of unified ram is nice
