I've been using Icecat for a while (I use Arch BTW), but the guy who provided the binaries got turbo cancer or something, so the icecat-bin package from the AUR has been out of date for a while, and I'm not going to compile it myself. I know this is asked often but should I switch to Ungoogled Chromium? >Why not use regular Firefox?Because I don't like the direction it's taking, so might as well choose the lesser evil. This isn't necessarily because of muh AI, but Mozilla itself doesn't seem to care about their browser anymore, even if they claim it's still their flagship product.>Just use a forkI've been considering it as well, but then I'd be still using Firefox, so refer to the previous point. So my question is, how does UC compare to FF in terms of security and privacy? I use arkenfox with my Icecat profile, can you "harden" UC to a similar level? As for content blocking, you can still use uBO with UC, so that's the least of my concerns (lion shills gtfo).https://github.com/r58Playz/uBlock-mv3So for those of you who use UC, how is it? What's your general experience with it? And for the other 2 guys in the entire board using Icecat as well, will you keep on using it?>inb4 just wait for Ladybird

>>107604860>AIslop browserNo thanks.
>>107604566>As for content blocking, you can still use uBO with UC, so that's the least of my concerns (lion shills gtfo).>github.com/r58Playz/uBlock-mv3You can just use the normal ublock with UC. You dont need this fork. Just FYI.Anyway, you can tweak some flags to harden UC but its unnecessary. It makes no requests by default. Its a good browser.
>>107604566>so the icecat-bin package from the AUR has been out of date for a while, and I'm not going to compile it myself. You could use the binaries compiled by Fedora project, or Trisquelhttps://packages.fedoraproject.org/pkgs/icecat/icecat/index.htmlhttps://trisquel.c3sl.ufpr.br/packages/pool/main/i/icecat/
>>107604566Waterfoxhttps://www.theregister.com/2025/12/18/firefox_no_ai_alternative_waterfox/
>>107604566Use Trisquel's Abrowser, it's basically GNU IceCat with no extensions and it's based on main firefox instead of firefox-esrSince you're on arch, I would recommend creating an ubuntu or a debian container then running this script i wrote:https://pastebin.com/vWyBaEyqAfter running this, you should have the trisquel repository and then simply install abrowser with "sudo apt install abrowser"
>>107604566>arch doesn't have icecat in its reposkek what a shitty distro. just install the guix package manager and install icecat that way
If you want a Firefox fork:Mullvad browserLibrewolfAbrowserIronfoxIf you want a chromium fork:Ungoogled chromiumBraveCromiteVanadiumTrivalentBrowsers not based on either won't work for most people.
