COSMIC DE released in Stable the other day.

What do you make of it? What environment do you run?

the only reason why it exists is debussy usecase nonsense.
if they actually tried to do something different I would try them out but it is just a shitty version of gnome in rust with some useless settings inside.

better than Gnome. worse than KDE

I think it's really nice. It's the only DE I use because it's the only one that has tiling out of the box, and it's really well integrated. The tabbed mode and float/pinned window features are good, the way it handles the tiling is very convenient, it's easy to switch between tiling/floating, it's relatively customizable (compared to gnome w/o tweaks), has a consistent theme, isn't based on gtk or qt (mostly a neat features), the integrated zoom is nice, and a lot of small features I care about work.

Problems are that it's not customizable enough. 4 finger swipe for workspaces only, annoying hot corner is really easy to hit by accident, and the settings app doesn't let me add a new wallpaper folder or install a theme right now. The settings app is unironically holding the whole project back.

Also if you don't know that Super+2 finger swipe zooms you in you can accidentally micro zoom in and think the compositor is fucked.

how is resource use compared to Gnome? Gnome goes to shit after being open around a week or two
>>
>>107605363
Can you theme it to not look like a shitty macos ripoff? I'm going for "windows if it was good".

>>107605363
Looks good. Waiting for someone to package it for Guix.

Great, another DE that makes KDE apps look like shit. The mainstream is already focused on GNOME/GTK (SLES, RHEL, Ubuntu are GNOME) Yes, even fucking Mint uses GTK with Cinnamon and XFCE.

somehow uses more of my ram and cpu than kde and i dont like it. i get the feeling they just copied other existing projects but this time with rust and its just fucky. it doesnt even feel or look good to use IDK how you make something feel more sluggish than kde

Yeah it's pretty easy to theme. You can't make it a Windows XP clone or anything, but the dock and panel are basically the same thing just with different settings and and applets. I'd recommend removing rounded corners, compact UI, remove the dock + put the panel on the bottom, resize to taste, and find a color scheme you like on their website or via cosmic-tweaks.
