I've never had any issue with them. Granted I usually use terminal to install things, but if Linux is going to be used by regular people flatpak does need to be a part of it most likely.

I let my distro manage the my libraries,
and I 100% prefer to use appimages, because they don't have any prerequisites, single file, executable, mounts itself on a folder along with their own libraries and /usr/share things.

Flatpak is based because I have a flatpak of GIMP 3.0.4 GEGL 0.4.62 that is isolated with all my plugins, and other plugins and set to never update that way I can forget about maintaining my plugins and just use GIMP 3.0.4 forever contained.


I even have a flatpak of a minetest mod from late 2020 that still works
