My motherboard is only PCIe 4, but is it "worth" (relative term) getting a Gen 5 SSD as a storage expansion?

Gen 5 drives previously commanded an enormous premium, but since the price-gouging of memory/storage began a couple weeks ago the cost of Gen 4 drives have caught up and the two are roughly at parity; eg. In Australian dollars-
>Lexar NM790 8TB (Gen 4) - $1499
>Samsung 9100 8TB (Gen 5) - $1548
The price of both are ludicrous of course. Even in kangaroo republic funny money no drive should be costing more than 100$/TB, but if I need more space and I'm going to be paying 1.5x to >2x that amount on an m.2 SSD of any capacity should I not go for the newer generation drive with the DRAM cache for the extra $50?

>>107607209
>>107607322
In my case it's more about total capacity, for now and the immediate future.
Had the price of RAM not exploded I'd buy large-capacity HDDs and finish off the NAS I'd been gathering parts for, but I let a $700 deal on four 64GB (of the very specifically 2Rx4, non-L)RDIMMs that I need get away a couple months ago, and now those things cost that much each.
Buying a big, monolithic 8TB SSD isn't necessarily very smart, but it insures me somewhat against the possibility of these things get more expensive; for anything important that lives on that drive, I'll be making snapshots and syncing them to a very basic backup system I've already got set up (basically just a raspberry pi plugged into a pair of external hard drives with BTRFS in RAID1).

>>
>>107607508
>In my case it's more about total capacity,
So you want raw storage. Go buy an HDD for a fraction of the cost. If you're willing to shuck drives then they're even cheaper.
https://diskprices.com/?locale=us
Go check this for the cheapest HDD on Amazon. Has other regions too if you're not in America. I would never buy big SSDs because if they fail on me then it's going to be expensive to replace it. Whereas if an HDD dies on me it's much cheaper to replace.

So is Linux actually better for gaming on AMD than W10? I looked up some comparisons and it seems for low end hardware Linux really does make a pretty good difference in performance. But for anything relatively high end, windows actually performs on par or better at 1440p and 2160p. Am I missing something here?

they've made better value and decently performing cards for years now, and they still don't sell, because of sheep who work against their own interests.

You are an irrelevant minority and so am i, we don't decide anything. The difference you and me, is that you're ignorant of this, and mistakenly think that AMD should listen to you. When their gpus are dominating the low and mid-range arena, then they can worry about competing with flagship gpus from Njudea.

Nvidia is literally unplayable on WuWa. You don't even play the game.

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=zsV3xfS9wpI

The problem:
In open-world areas like Septemont, my FPS barely holds 60 FPS when I’m standing still and often drops into the 40s when running or flying around, with all settings maxed (ray tracing maxed, DLSS on Quality, v-sync and motion blur off). I’ve seen plenty of benchmarks online showing the same card hitting 80+ FPS in Septemont without DLSS, so something is definitely off. *EDIT*: Even on my 7900 GRE i had well over 80 fps in newer areas graphics all maxed everywhere and 120 maxed out on older but after switching even in huanglong with ray tracing turned off and dlss set to quality i still cant achieve even a stable 70-80 fps and in this scenario the gpu usage is even lower only a meager 80-90w and 20-30 ish % usage.

When this happens:

CPU usage: fluctuates between 45–65%, never maxed out.

GPU usage: sits around 50–60% which is very wierd.

GPU power draw: only ~130W, when this card can comfortably pull 300W+ under load.

Result: The card isn’t being pushed at all, even though the workload is demanding.

What I’ve tried so far:

Full clean reinstall of Windows 11 (USB wipe, all partitions deleted, fresh install)

DDU to fully wipe AMD + NVIDIA GPU drivers reinstalled multiple NVIDIA driver versions (latest and older)

Monitored with GPU-Z / HWInfo no throttling, temps fine (64°C max), clocks stable

Benchmarks: FurMark and 3DMark show the GPU pulling full power (300W+), 99% usage, scoring exactly where a 5070 Ti should

Swapped GPUs: same issue on another 5070 Ti but my RX 7900 GRE and RX 9070 XT both ran WuWa perfectly fine on this exact same setup

Other games tested (all fine, no issues):

Everywhere else, the GPU is flawless — it’s only WuWa where it behaves like it’s half-asleep. This 5070 Ti is actually performing worse than my old 7900 GRE in WuWa, which shouldn’t be the case.

>>107607778
The problem for AMD is that they don't have anything to rival the 5080/4090/5090.

1080ti is a non-starter for being late to the party (releasing around the time of vega56/64) and completely of a different price class
rx580 got good reviews for being a defacto gtx980 equivalent for pennies. the only problem was that nvidia wasnt asleep and made sure the 1060 was price competitive and it was also technologically far superior for not needing a gorillion watts to get gtx980/rx580 performance

The AOC Q27G3XMN is a solid value HDR monitor for that price. You might look for it's revision the AOC Q27G40XMN which has 3X the local dimming zones for less blooming plus brighter output for daytime viewing if it's available and not much more:
https://www.rtings.com/monitor/tools/compare/aoc-q27g40xmn-vs-aoc-q27g3xmn/97969/41611
Also both AOC models use a VA panel that while having good contrast, have narrow viewing angles that quickly washout in color/brightness off-center viewing compared with IPS panels and also suffer black smearing in high-motion which could be a problem if you are sensitive to it in games.

If those seem like concerns for you, the Xiaomi G Pro 27i is a MiniLED IPS better than a lot of IPS panels for contrast with local dimming turned on and a more well-rounded multipurpose display.
https://www.rtings.com/monitor/reviews/xiaomi/g-pro-27i
Failing that, any 1440p Fast-IPS (180Hz or more) from this list would be worth looking into:
https://de.pcpartpicker.com/products/monitor/#P=2,11,17,13&D=135000,600000&r=256001440&F=635000000,716280000&sort=price

Should I get a modern ddr5 Z790 motherboard for ~$200 USD and use the 32 gb ddr5 (knowing that I won't be able to afford to get a 64 gb kit any time soon), or should I spend more money for a technically inferior ddr4 z790 board but keep my 64 gb of nicer ddr4?

Yeah I was actually on ddr3 for like 12 years so I skipped ddr4 and went right to ddr5 with my main early this year. Where's the 4400 mhz for ddr4? Couldn't find it only like 3600 mhz I think but even ddr4 is being bought out. Idk man this fucking sucks.

i use amd-zen-ucode-platomav on my laptop
it's not a security issue because the microcode is signed and encrypted, but yes, nothing has changed

With how retarded many people are, I don't want to get one with fucked pins and have to deal with the returns process for a used board.
