Okay

I have an ancient toaster that's 15 years old now. I can do some web browsing but stuff like YouTube struggles. I can watch 480p on YouTube. Anyway, someone please tell me what kind of videos I should download for watching movies.

1080p anything is no go most of the time. I can handle some 720p videos if they are like divx. Divx movies play well for me. Other than divx, what else? A lot of mkv videos make my computer shit itself and struggle to not crash. Nevermind watching it

what gpu? there's lists that show which gpu's have hardware acceleration for which codecs. for example https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Intel_Quick_Sync_Video#Hardware_decoding_and_encoding
>>
Help please

The world is moving past me and I'm getting cut off. Before everything was 1080p at a minimum I could play almost every video I downloaded. It's not like that anymore

Have you tried:

https://chromewebstore.google.com/detail/h264ify/aleakchihdccplidncghkekgioiakgal?hl=en

https://addons.mozilla.org/en-US/firefox/addon/h264ify/

That's just for YouTube of course but HD 3000 does support H.264.

I think h265 videos are worse for me than divx. For me, the mark of divx tells me I can watch a video without it being a slide show

use ikatube (youtube client)

get dvd rips from zamunda/rutracker
>>
>>107608756
I would say that converting them is the next best thing, but that would be a Herculean task if this is your only machine. Older series are usually around 480p, so maybe look around there, too.

Okay thanks. This is quick

But this only helps with Youtube. I like to download full movies and shows. What codecs can I download besides divx?
>>
>>107608923
No idea honestly, but if you're on a desktop try getting a budget gpu just to ensure that you can watch videos with more recent codecs.
>>
>>107608880
Yeah, you don't have H.265 support, only H.264.
>>
>>107608756
Windows? Linux? You should have no problems with .mp4 and .mkv files using older codecs like: >>107608965

>Intel HD Graphics 3000
you're completely bullshitting. this graphics can play any youtube video just fine at your screen's native resolution.
>>
>>107608756
i hope you're on linux and not winjeet or itoddler shit.
i have no problem playing 1080p youtube on my ancient netbook with fedora on it.
>>

He's probably got it set to the default vp9 or av1 and has an ass sku cpu. though my 2008 t400 with a core2duo can play 1080p vp9 youtube fine, even low complexity 1080p24 av1 plays alright. this is using mpv on linux however. the youtube website is slower than playing the videos. i prefer youtube-local over the official website, uses a ton less ram, too

You basically need h264. Even 720p will be watchable on that since even ancient laptops have support for it
