I don't get why it's still so popular.

People want their OS to use minimal resources so maximum resources are free for programs like in the Windows 2000 days.
>>107613691
Does it have faithful Windows themes and login managers?

If you want something like Windows, just use Windows

that hasn't been the case for xfce in years

Perhaps I should give Debian Lxqt a try over Mint XFCE on my laptop.

No way fag, Linux would be better if it was a carbon copy of Windows before 2012. Just using Chicago95 makes me feel less homesick, but it is still a simulacra due to Linux jank such as login managers.

Perhaps running lxqt and kde plasma themes next can make things less miserable.
>>
It just works:
- No stupid feature creep by overzealous devs
- New, slightly improved version every 2 years
- Has been around since forever, hundreds of themes
- stable as fuck

It's an option, but they have different uses.
TWM needs a lot of setup to replace a desktop environment, and it's not really meant for the average user.
You're probably a larper.

Just because some guy spams something a lot, doesn't mean that it's popular.
Xfce was popular over ten years ago. It is dead now.
You can't build a DE on gtk, dig your head into the sand and hope that Gnome allows you to exist.

What do you suggest people use now instead?
>>
>>107612603
Because it just works, every time I tried a different DE it was either bloated shit or kept crashing, always went back to XFCE after a while

I'll check it out on my laptop then while I still got Rufus on Windows 7 ready, should I grab the LTS release or latest stable release?
>>
Only reason I switched away from XFCE to KDE is XFCE kept giving me screen tearing in games that aren't particularly graphicly intensive (notably Factorio). Yes I tried compton or pico or whatever its called now. KDE, dare I say it, just works.
>>
>>107614245
Latest stable, or if you have older hardware, go with LTS.
>>
>>107614308
My 2015 Lenovo 20D9 seems old enough so hopefully I'm not going to miss out on any good improvements by going with LTS
>>

So what's wrong with Openbox?
