Good morning, I hate AI.
>>107623190Yup, that's the endgame
>>107623190It's simple, we kill the jews.
>>107623077Internet Exploder used to actually be a real thing.
DAILY REMINDER that there's NO NEED to install MUH LATEST unless there is a security issue with the version you are using now and MUH LATEST has it patched. Otherwise, if the version you are using now is working just fine you can keep using it while MUH LATEST works its way through Sid and Testing by the Debian GNU PLUS LINUX devs and maintainers and Testing finally become STABLE and you upgrade to that and HOAP 4 THA BEST on that day. Also you should know that you've been solidified into false PARADIGMS of ENTITLEMENT during your time using CORPORATE OWNED PROPERTIES where you expect any new MUH LATEST to have all of the bugs worked out of it on release day because they are MEGACORPS with MEGABUX who you have ripped off by using pirated versions of their software but still try to ACT like you are a PAYING CUSTOMER with demands and expectations and they should have had their JEET MASSES do everything right and make sure they did so before SHIPPING it out to the public but now you're in the FREE OPEN SOURCE SOFTWARE PARADIGM where everything is different and you don't get to say what should or shouldn't be happening in the current year because unless you are a dev or absolutely willing TESTER then you should be using versions from 1-2 years ago anyway while letting the ADULT AUTISTS and TRANNIES do their jobs in PEACE and tell them nothing but THANK YOU for empowering (You) to be such a TURBOFUCKINGFAGGOT.
>>107623190I'm too broke to afford a new PC, how long we estimating before manufacturers start selling micro PCs so they can build more AI data centres and keep the war going in Ukraine.
>>107623041Why does a status bar need 48 MB of space?
I use vanilla gnome. However i do like Ubuntu's look. Did some research and does this sound about right? Yaru icons, ubuntu fonts (the compact one) and changing colours in terminal. Should be all i need yes? t. like aubergine purple
>>107623313based, this is why i use debian, stable as my dumb big titty highly insecure gf
>>107623313Wrong. You should install the latest update immediately. Don't use outdated abandonware.
>>107622738Arch is being too much of a nigger right now. I've seen people saying they have fedora running on this laptop. Eww.
>>107623313Haloperidol.
>>107623381well, what modules do you even have inside it?
I've made a system user (no home folder). I want to redirect ~/.config and ~/.local/state to /etc and /var/lib, respectively. How can I define peristent XDG_ environment variables for that user ?https://wiki.archlinux.org/title/XDG_Base_Directory
>>107623586>I want to redirect ~/.config and ~/.local/state to /etc and /var/lib, respectively.but why?
>>107622417If RMS = God Emperero, then...GNU = ImperiumLinux = Adeptus MechanicusCanonical = The EcclesiarchyRedHat = The InquisitionBSDs = EldarUnix = The old onesMacOS = DrukhariWindows = Forces of Chaos
>>107623586I think you misunderstand the purpose of those directories. They are local overrides. /etc is for system configuration. Any well behaved software should support both local and system configuration without you having to go the nuclear option of "redirecting" ~/.config to /etc (you don't want to do that).
I need a privacy-respecting browser that is secure for banking, but also as lightweight as possible. What are my options? If Firefox or Chromium extensions work that'd be great, same if I could grab them from the terminal.
>>107622818like what?
>>107623671>What are my options?Become rich, then pay people to make one for you.
>>107622738So what's the "proper" way of installing a custom keyboard layout? I modified some files at /usr/share/X11/xkb (which apparently links to /usr/share/xkeyboard-config-2), and it does work, but sometimes when I update my system the files get overwritten, so surely there's an easier, simpler way of doing this, right?
>>107623671Just use a separate Firefox profile and maybe also sandbox it if you're paranoid.
>>107623733>but sometimes when I update my system the files get overwrittenBecause you're editing a file managed by your package manager. You should copy/duplicate it instead.
>>107623671Shouldn't this poast have been a Claude vibe coding prompt, then once you release the results and it becomes wildly popular you will >>107623710, and it will become privacy-respecting browsers that are secure for banking, but also as lightweight as possible, ALL THA WAY DOWN.
>>107623710Or you could just say Falkon or IceCat.
What is the best way to download and install or store software on a minimal installation? Some programs want me to use Snap or Flathub some kind of package manager, others let me use the terminal to download the software and "install" it god knows where, whereas some give me tar.xz archives which I guess are analagous to portable applications on Windows I can extract anywhere and run or create shortcuts to.I have OCD by the way and don't want to clutter my filesystem with loose files I cannot keep track of.
>>107623824>I cannot keep track of.that's the job of your package manager. Use your distros package manager. Ignore Fatpacks, Snaps, and downloading some fucking tarball.
>>107623392+Ubuntu's font rendering tweaks+some Gnome extensions (appindicators?)+10 years of support
>>107623889>10 years of support?
TLDR on what's the current FS meta in linux?Must pool drives, must stripe, mirror & both, must at least somehow support encryption without encrypting the entire pool.>>107623824You should use a package manager to not end up in dependency hell. Most sources can be compiled into an executable. Now that you have something executable, assuming you're using deb you can always make your own deb, using checkinstall for example. Similar tools exist for other pkg managers.Tools to make executables from languages like python for example also exist but in this case I would make a directory, with the code and a venv and a desktop file or similar that points to it and activates the venv. That should cover almost all your needs, with the package manager simply fetching most software from it's sources.Always think about dependencies and how you'll remove everythibng. Streamline everything and do not rely on something where you have to remmeber specifics.
>>107623757I highly doubt even the best AI can make a privacy respecting browser from scratch. It'll just guide you through the process of forking Firefox or Chromium and changing the name and logo like everyone else.
>>107623824I have "similar issues" and do a Debian netinst of the base system with only Standard System Utilities selected at tasksel (if you don't know WAT that is, it will make sense when you see it during the installation), then first boot into root and start apt installing each component that I need for my setup. If menu, then xorg, then wutevs WM or DE you are going to use are first then you can startx after that and be on a desktop or "desktop" to go further from there.I only EVER install things using apt install, but I also do not play GOYMES or any of the other faggoy shit that the kids these days all insist upon, so there may be something you "need" (you don't /need/ that shit) that requires MUH SNAPFLATS, idk.I use only Openbox WM for a "desktop" and mc for a file manager so I don't even have directories for photos, videos, "desktop", etc. in my /home. Build your system piece by piece up from base and it will be as close as you can get to satisfying your OCD. Apt will handle dependencies so all you really have to figure out is the main components, and then whenever you run up on a task you want to achieve but can't, do a search and find out how and what you need for that.
>>107623665>>107623603syncthing doesn't
>>107623928You can absolutely configure Syncthing to run as a system daemon.

Is archinstall script good for me? Does it sane defaults? I don't have any particular requirements
>>107623956Show hands and nose.
>>107623964>Does it saneUnlikely.
>>107623863apt install and apt remove or bust then
>>107623924I'm on a Ubuntu/Debian derivative so yeah, I would prefer not using all Flathub or Snap stuff when I was always taught you should only need to install things and their dependencies through apt. Does removing packages through apt also remove their dependencies though? It's been a while.
>>107624112Well once you get on one of those derivatives you're in a whole other PARADIGM of software installation/management. Debian as I described installing it doesn't even have a "software store", much less MUH SNAPFLATS or any of that other gay NNNNNNNN shit, not even Synaptic. Synaptic is as far as I will ever personally go beyond apt in a terminal, and I do not have Synaptic installed, either. To uninstall a package you apt purge and it will delete all of the config cruft too, then apt autoremove --purge will uninstall the dependencies and their configs.
