ITT: We post distros used by insecure people who want to use Arch but don't want to get made fun of for using Arch

>>107650456I used to be the kind of geek who uses Arch, back when all distros allowed (and required) as much configuration as Arch. Now I use vanilla Ubuntu even though I hate Snap because I don't have to think about the OS at all.
>>107650686GAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAY!!! Buy a mac fag!
>>107650701>buyno
>>107650686This. I don't want to tinker with my OS anymore, I just want it to work (and be free, and not require company-specific hardware, and not have ads, etc.)
>>107650456why would we be insecure? fedora is a working and serious distro unlike arch (which is a toy). we get the peace of mind that comes from stability (tested software) and the last features that come with its updated repos.
>>107650774You sound like an insecure faggot
>>107650867answer the question, nigger.
>>107650883Because you project and use an OS for your ego>I'm le based because I use Fedora unlike those Arch redditors! That's the same mentality on the flipside of the coin as those Arch fanboys who blurt out "I use arch btw" constantly
>>107650774It's literally not stable, tested software, You are the beta tester. You're an unpaid beta tester for packages that may become part of RHEL later.

>>107651165arent snaps a pain? or you can choose not to use?
>>107651193I just don't interact with them at all, maybe one day they'll be mandatory, I think in the base install includes Firefox in a snap, but it's just whatever, it still works as a web browser, and certainly works well enough to look up whatever is the recommended browser on the g wiki and then just install that normally
>>107651193Snaps aren't difficult, they're just a solution in search of a problem and a retarded waste of disk space. There aren't .deb packages in the official repo for some apps, including Firefox. You could add a PPA if you wanted to.
>>107651233how can ubuntu just werk if you can't even get firefox from an official repo? on fedora it comes preinstalled and you can remove it and get the flatpak or even the snap if you want
>>107651233>You could add a PPA if you wanted toive read somewhere that PPAs are also a pain and thats why debian dont use it kek (even tho you guys are close). so how does that work?>>107651242flats are just so fucking easy to manage, if its not in the repos i can always find it on flathub. maybe them can use it too.

>heh arch amirite>ok for that you need this "ppa" and if there are version incompatibilities try...>you will need to upgrade the os major version for that also>the sudo root access for that doesnt work because you see let me explain the permissions in uh "snap-apps"...>that's right they are like those "appimages" or "flat-paks" but mandatory and nobody wants to use them yeah kind of like mimicking android mobile apps...>oh yeah the fonts/theming is all fucked also because "snap"..>yes the download is 1.75 GB because you see the "snap-apps" include all of......>the boot is a little slower because mounting the partition of each "snap-app"..>listen man, i dont think about the os at all
>>107651972GarbageOS
>>107651853more like for troons.
>>107651193Snaps are slow and trying to work around snap-only or snap-default apps is a pain. I prefer aptitude and flatpak.
>>107650456I run Slackware. Come see when your balls drop and your voice stops changing, Champ.
>>107650456Arch is just Gentoo for brainlets Fedora and *buntu are for the working man
I just look at the steam stats which OS is the most used. And it seems to be Ubuntu. So I use Ubuntu. The Mint kernel is too outdated, because it's based on the LTS version of Ubuntu. So I can't use that. And I prefer apt above whatever the fuck Fedora is doing. Because now I can at least troubleshoot my own machine.
>>107652201Pop is actually the best distro, out of the box, for gaming.

>>107650665He's a big guy
>>107652285What does this even mean?
>>107652201You really can't "learn" (how many package manager commands do you regularly utilize anyway?) or even cross-compare another package manager and that alone is what locks you into canonical's retarded decisions?
>>107652409nta but i'm still not clear on what the actual differences are between package managers, aside from different syntax
>>107650701Where? I'll buy a macfag. Do they give good head?
>>107652425dependency resolution, package format, pretty much everything that makes them do what they do
>>107652346For you.
>>107652285Pop's new desktop is still in beta even if they're calling it "epoch" or whatever, and changing the DE would just turn it into a System76-branded Mint.
>>107652425Biggest difference might be the default package formats of the files (.rpm/.deb) that they install But you're right to be confused as I certainly am from the other anon's complaint because they're essentially just different ways to skin the same cat and they generally all do the same exact things: 1. Install software 2. Remove software 3. Handle dependency resolution4. List/show software 5. Add/remove remote sources/reposThat's all. If they do it they MIGHT have slightly different syntax "upgrade" vs "update" (maybe), "info" vs "show"
>>107652451What do you mean "beta?" Ive been running 24.04 with cosmic since release. Haven't had a single issue. Not one. Even OBS is working fine. Not a single problem with games or steam either.
>>107652465>>107652425I should add "how" they go about it, i.e. their implementation details which define performance and what they choose to do in dependency resolution, especially in default cases, might be worth digging into but I'd say that's more of a niche concern and not worth the level of autism displayed by some on this board, imo
>>107652465Thanks for the screenshot. It could be useful later on.
Arch is only for x86_64 with a shitty repo, the 30 retards in charge of the project can barely do infrastructure maintenance and just pushes everyone to do their jobs instead "because arch is a community". Couldn't even maintain a package signing server, maintainer had to sign with their own computer, until Valve had enough and gave them a server, then Arch went nuts with the "we are collaborating with Valve".>but Arch is not only x86_64Yeah, that's another project not affiliated with the official Arch project.>but Fedora is beta testingPretty much anything released and funded by Red Hat ends up in most distros. You tell me why Arch accepts all of that. Right, Arch just cares about being upstream (which is the real beta testing) and adopt what already works, they don't define new ways to do things, they don't do shit. SystemD, wayland, flatpak, pipewire, podman, btrfs, valkey, atomic distros, shim UEFI bootloader, NetworkManager, firewalld, bootc, toolbox, cockpit, plymouth, and way more, pushing for actual change. Fedora touches a lot of uncomfortable topics because it has to be talked about sooner or later, decisions are made, everyone criticize and once it is demonstrated it works, gets adopted by everyone. Of course they have failures but that is the purpose of the distro (while obeying US Laws, like the Linux Kernel itself). Debian is meant to be a distribution for everyone (ironically it cannot be distributed in North Korea, Syria, Iran and Cuba). Gentoo is meant to give the most customization to their users (which I think is the real Arch, with or without compiling). You like to build your system from the ground up? You can do that with Debian, Fedora, Gentoo, Guix, NixOS, Slackware, openSUSE. Want server image? A running GUI ootb? A minimal image? Other architectures? They got you covered, Arch can't. They don't care, is not the scope of the project and that's fine. But users think Arch is the greatest shit and it's not.

I use Fedora because the last time I used Arch, it fail to update.I still watch to use Arch with Hyprland deep down, but I also dislike debugging my computer.
